  • Laura Ingalls Wilder was born on February 7, 1867, and died on February 10, 1957. She lived to be 90 years old.
  • Laura started out writing small articles in the paper, but then she eventually had her own column on the paper. She named it  “As a Farm Woman Thinks”. She sometimes had to write her name as L. I. Wilder because people didn't want to publish a woman. But later on, she said that it was by Mrs. L. I. Wilder 
  • Later on, Laura wrote the Little House series. This series helped raise awareness on how people lived in the prairie. 
  •  Laura's book showed how people lived in the prairie, becasue most people thought that all of the Great Plains  was dry and treeless. 
  • Little House was originally an autobiography, but it was later turned into a children's book, and then the tv show.

  • Laura's writing showed how it was to live on the prairie, and that it wasn't always easy.
  • Laura also wrote about how her family became friend's with the Native Americans, when Native Americans we being treated badly during that time. It showed that Native Americans should be treated as equals.
  • Lauras writing showed that women can have jobs like writers and not just men. Lauras successfulness in her writing helped other young women follow their dreams
  • Laura also wrote in her 7th book, Little town on the prairie, Laura writes about saving up money so that her sister, Mary, could go to  a blind collage in Iowa. This is important for disabled people, because they feel heard. Laura is a very excepting person, and she doesn't discriminate, even though during that time, in was normal to discriminate against people who were different.
