The poster paint took a couple of hours to dry, the colours layered onto one another and felt smooth while applying while the water colours dried quickly felt chalky and blended into one another.
Both paints made the paper feel thin and wet like.

Before this unit i never associated light with art and never really knew how many different ways you could use light. 

I will aim to continue to expose the children in my room to art through light more often and use our light box in multiple different ways not just by adding blocks and shapes but by using items such as loose parts and different shaped and sized items for the children to explore and learn through

]]> 2022-08-22 09:09:07 UTC https://padlet.com/lmaidment1/98jawop7h4cok194/wish/2267211617 Reflection lmaidment1 https://padlet.com/lmaidment1/98jawop7h4cok194/wish/2267211848 Since watching 'GEOLOGIST EXPLAINS PAINTING WITH SOIL AT RICE GALLERY'S 'YAMATANE' on youtube i learnt that clay can come in multiple colours from the earth, the colour of the clay depends on the oxygen levels, if there is too much oxygen in the clay it is more red in colour where as if it has more water contents it is a green clay. 
I found the art created with clay to be so amazing because i  didn't realise that clay came in different colours i thought it was just a brown or a red/brown. 

I have always been reluctant to use clay in the classroom with the children purely because of the mess clay creates, i feel like children of the 2-3 age group are still learning to 'play' and playing or creating with clay takes time, so i always lean towards play-dough because it doesn't cause as much mess. 
I will set myself a goal to provide the children in small groups exposure to clay to see how they respond to the feeling and the mess.

I love that with every different paint and technique of application comes a different end result.

The play dough didn't transfer onto my hands and wasn't messy to use. 
Where as the clay felt quite hard and needed to be worked and warmed up before it was easily able to form a shape, the clay felt like it would hold better and create a stronger hold. With the pink poster paint I used a tissue to apply the paint, I found the tissue absorbed the paint which caused it to transfer onto the paper quite thin especially with the wiping motion causing the paint to dry really quickly.
The dabbing motion applied a little patchy, it took an hour to dry completely.
I used news paper to apply the blue paint, I found with the wiping motion it went on quite thick and took a little longer to dry with the texture of the newspaper impacting the end product. The dabbing motion with the newspaper provided a more full finish compared to the tissue although it took a few more hours to dry as it was thicker.

I did this experience with my 2 year old daughter, i watched her copy me and explore the light exactly the same way as i did.  She would hold the light up to her hand and look to see if the light would come through, she then would look at the wall when creating shadows and say 'look mum, shadows'. 
She went through and named all the colours that she could see on the wall and some of the shapes that transferred, it was so lovely to see how much learning she was doing from an experience so simple to set up.

James Turrell is a artist from America.  In 1966 is when he started experimenting with light by covering windows and only letting a small amount of light in, this is when he created his first light projection. For more then half a century James Turrell explored light which created art that was engaging to the viewers.

I folded my piece of paper over and over again and when I un folded the paper it had different patterns, the paper was no longer flat. When folding the paper it felt smooth but got harder to fold the smaller it got. 

I did a drawing on a piece of paper of my class mate with a pen while my eyes were closed, I tried to make sure I didn't push to hard as i was nervous the paper would rip. The paper didn't rip as I didn't press to hard.
