#1- If students leave school less curious than when they started, we have failed them. Schools should not be a place where answers go to die, but questions come to life.
#2- If we are going to help our students thrive, we have to move past “the way we have always done it, and create better learning experiences for our students than we had ourselves. This does not mean replacing everything we do, but we must be willing to look with fresh eyes at what we do and ask, “Is there a better way?”
#3- If leaders want people to try new things, they have to openly show that they are willing to do the same.
#4- We must inspire innovation, rather than demand compliance. Consider the following questions:
Do people often ask me for permission or guidance?
Have I created an environment where risks are not only encouraged but expected?
How have I highlighted the great work being done by our school to others in and out of the organization?
#5- One of the best ways for leaders to take notice of, and even discover new and better opportunities is to experience life from the end users’ viewpoint. For us as educational leaders, our learners are the end users. And sometimes experiencing their discomfort in our schools and classrooms can be eye-opening. Would you want to be a learner in your own classroom
(or in the classrooms in your school)?
#6- If we want meaningful change, we have to make a connection to the heart before we can make a connection to the mind. It isn’t how much you know that matters. What matters is how much access you have to what other people know.
#7- This is your opportunity to design schools that value creation over compliance and making over memorizing. Consider how much deeper learning could be if “creation” was a non-negotiable in the learning for both us and our students.
#8- Our job, sometimes, is simply to be the spark, help build confidence, and then get out of the way. If innovation in any school or school division is solely dependent on one person, it will continue to happen in pockets. In contrast, when we focus on empowering learners to become leaders, they help spread ideas.
#9- When we stop simply telling students how to learn, and, rather, act as a “guide on the side”, we can support them in a way that encourages them to find their own solutions.
#10- What if all teachers tweeted once a day about something they did in their classrooms and took five minutes to read other teachers’ tweets? Using a hashtag is a simple way to create connections between teachers in our own buildings. The hashtag is not about communication as much as it is about community.

#3: I think this quote is important because a lot of times those in leadership will suggest new innovative techniques but are not as open to it themselves. I think it is a team effort and that it is important for everyone to be on the same page!

#1. It reminds me that each student is different. They think and learn in different ways. Therefore, I must be agile, fluent in my craft and flexible enough to meet them where they are and not use a cookie cutter approach and expect them to grow. When this happens, we all will learn and grow together.

I believe most teachers at one point or another get bit by the "ego bug". This is my classroom. My way is the right way. This is how I learned it and I'm doing just fine. I think this quote reminds us that we need to humble ourselves and be willing to be open to change. The worse thing we can do for our students is to be a stagnant teacher. Would we want our learners to be stagnant?

#6
In my mind, this is a rephrasing of one of my core beliefs: you have to build positive relationships with students before you can have an impact on their learning. Students, like the rest of us, need to feel connected to others in a supportive, positive way. Once that's achieved, they, like all of us, become receptive to everything else that is offered.

As a veteran teacher I understand change and innovation. I understand that in the interest of progress I must be able and willing to be progressive and move with the times. It's not about doing the same things in the same way but rather improving upon the foundation and creating new memories and new ways to implement learning. We are not where we were we have excelled and have new tools to teach. It is not an insult to where we were but when there is a better way its good to take it.
