NATO and the United Nation's involvement greatly impacted the outcome of the Bosnian War. First off in Operation Deliberate Force - NATO Bosnian Intervention, Ben Loudermilk writes"Operation Deliberate Force led to the destruction of more than 300 Bosnian Serb targets as well as the deaths of several Bosnian Serb soldiers and civilians. In December of 1995, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization sent a strong peacekeeping force, consisting of 60,000 enlisted men and officers, into Bosnia, with the intention of enforcing the famous Dayton Peace Agreement. "With the help of NATO's Operation Deliberate Force, the Bosnian Serb army was greatly weakened allowing for an easier victory for the Bosnian Muslims and Croats."By 1993, the Serbs held more than 70 percent of Bosnia. In May of that year, the UN Security Council declared six besieged Bosnian cities to be 'safe areas' for refugees. The cities were Sarajevo, Bihac, Gorazde, Srbrenica, Tuzla, and Zep. These 'safe areas' were to be protected by UN peacekeeping troops using 'all necessary means,' including the use of force,' The UN also ordered Bosnian Serbs to withdraw their forces and allow humanitarian aid to reach the refugees."With the help of the United Nations, the Bosnian Muslims were able to be kept safe and be protected while the war was raging. The defense of the Muslims helped decrease the amounts of massacres and executions. "In December of 1995, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization sent a strong peacekeeping force, consisting of 60,000 enlisted men and officers, into Bosnia, with the intention of enforcing the famous Dayton Peace Agreement. The agreement, which was crafted to ensure peace, prevailed, and also helped prevent renewed hostilities among the warring factions. Twelve months later, in December of 1996, the Stabilization Force (led by NATO), was created with the objective of continually enforcing the Dayton Peace Agreement in the region."With the enforcement of the Dayton Peace Agreement, the Bosnian war was able to officially end and it brought justice upon the perpetrators.

How did the Serbians rise above the Muslims when they were the minority population?

The Bosnian Serbs gained power and rose above the Bosniaks by obtaining military help from Serbia and with the motivation of nationality. First off, the New World Encyclopedia on the Bosnian War informs us that "The Bosnian Serb members of parliament, consisting mainly of the Serb Democratic Party members, including some other party representatives (which would form the "Independent Members of Parliament Caucus"), abandoned the Bosnian parliament, and formed the Assembly of Serbian People of Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 24, 1991, which marked the end of the tri-national coalition that governed after the elections in 1990. This Assembly established the Serbian Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina on February 9, 1992, which became Republika Srpska in August 1992. The official aim of this act, stated in the original text of the Constitution of Republika Srpska, later amended, was to preserve the Yugoslav federation. It had strong support from Serbia, where the idea of restoring an ancient Greater Serbia was very popular. This included a substantial portion of Bosnia." When a few of the Bosnian Serb political members created the Assembly of Serbian People of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Bosnian Serbs broke off from the Bosniaks and Croats. They wanted to create a greater Serbia and was powered by the feelings of nationalism. Secondly in the news cover Ethnic Cleansing, Russel Watson and Margaret Warner writes, "The struggle in what used to be Yugoslavia turns out to be not just a civil war but a ruthless campaign by members of one ethnic group to "purify" the land by driving out others. Suddenly the response of the outside world so far--a lot of hand-wringing and a few relief supplies for one besieged city, Sarajevo-looks pathetically inadequate." As nationalists, the Bosnian serbs declared themselves as the "superior" and strived to "purify" the land and rid the Bosniaks. So they were powered by their nationalism. Lastly, in an article on Radovan Karadzic in Encyclopedia Britannica, it claims, "With the support of Serbian Pres. Slobodan Miloševic and the Bosnian Serb military leader Gen. Ratko Mladić, Karadžić began a campaign to take control of parts of Bosnia and to purge the areas of non-Serb peoples. Throughout the period from 1992 to 1995, he alternately pursued ruthless military actions and expressed interest in peace efforts advanced by Western leaders." The President of the New Republic of Serbia, gained military support from the president of Serbia, Slobodan Milosevic. WIth their help, the Bosnian Serbs were able to rise above the Muslims. In conclusion, the Bosnian Serbs rise to power was fueled by their nationalism and the support of Serbia
