Fantasy vs Reality

Rose Mary was trapped in a fantasy world with her art and never saw the reality of life. While she was busy creating art her children were starving and were in a bad state they were going dirty to school and had to showers she clearly did not take care of them all because she was busy painting, saying she will be a famous painter. Her state of mid was stuck in her becoming a famous painter and way better than other painters, in her mind she was good at creating art and she rather paint than taker care of her children. Also, even until now that her children are grown up and made a life for themselves she is still stuck in that fantasy of hers becoming a famous artist.

broken promises

In the Glass Castle many promises were broken due to her father always reminding her about the plans he always carried with him but never achieved to full fill them. The Glass Castle was a plan he had to create a big glass castle for them, he let the walls children design there own rooms of how they wanted, it was a huge promise to make but he was not able to keep it. For example a quote from her about the promise her dad made "when dad wasn't telling us all about the amazing things he had already done, he was telling us about the wondrous things he was gong to do. Like build the Glass Castle. " this shows that her dad always said things but never acomplished them.

In the book it shows that Jeannette forgave her father not matter what he did even now she forgives him for everything he did. One example was when Rex tried helping Jeannette swim by throwing her into the water and she sank, she couldn’t swim and she drowned but Rex kept pushing her down until she had enough and then she swim to the side of the lake and her dad said “you’re doing it, baby!” “You’re swimming!”. Even though she was drowning because of him but she forgave him. Another good example is when Rex steals Lori and Jeannette's money they were saving to go to New York, despite his actions Jeannette still forgives him for what he has done.

In the book it shows that they had t accept a lot of thing that happened in their life, an example of acceptance is, when their dad lost his job in Battle Mountain, the girls accept the fact that they will have to eat less. The walls children never really payed attention to what their parents were doing with their life because there parents would say they are on an adventure and the kids would go along with them. The walls children were afraid that Rex and Mary would leave them like they left Jeannettes cat go because he could not travel with them places when the skedaddle to another place, then they understood they had to be able to go along with them everywhere. In the time that they were in Welch the children needed to learn to love and trust each other more due to the fact that their parents weren't in the picture for most of their time there.

Jeannette loves her family, but she has a special bond with her father, since she was a kid her father and her were very close. Rex had a special nickname for Jeannette it was "mountain goat" because she was one of his favorite and she was the only one with a nickname. The nickname mountain goat was given to Jeannette because her father said that she can withstand hardships. She always had a bond with her father until she realized his lies to her and that is when Jeannette stopped believing in her father and the things he would tell her. For example a quote from glass castle that shows they love and support each other when they were gong to move but Rex did not want to "dad please come, we need you!" i hollered Lori and Brian and mom and Maureen all chimed in. this quote shows that they all stick with each other and they don't want to be separated.

Jeannette Walls had to grow up when she was barely a child because her parents couldn’t take care of her and her sibling. An example from the book is when Jeannette was hungry and she tried making hot dogs in the hot stove, her dress caught fire and she got severely burned and that was all because her mom was too busy painting instead of making food for her children. As time went on soon Jeannette and her siblings realized they had to take care of them selves and they had to grow up faster than other kids, theirs childhood was not completed because they had to grow up at a young age. When Jeannette was older she realized how her parents were not responsible and her and her siblings tried to maintain themselves by working hard and raise money to move away from their parents and making a new life of their own.
