In doing this project, my biggest takeaway was recognizing how easy it is for children to get a hold of technology these days. Since I was a child, technology has changed drastically, and children in today’s times don’t even know of a time where advanced technology didn’t exist. At such a young age children are put in front of a screen, and many of them are not taught how to use that technology safely and responsibly. In today's times it is so easy for students to get a hold of a smartphone, tablet, or computer and access online platforms. As a future teacher, I can use that to my advantage in teaching a netiquette lesson to my students.  I could show students videos on some of the Do’s and Don’ts to netiquette, and what they can do to keep themselves and others safe online. By having that visual, and going over the rules with my students it will lock in that information that has been taught to them and how they can use it the next time they go online. Doing this project has taught me that netiquette is an essential part to life about internet behavior, and how I can teach what I’ve learned about netiquette to my future students! 

Prior to doing my research on netiquette, I hadn’t considered how young students need to be taught about netiquette. In today’s world, children younger and younger are having access to technology, but not having a clear understanding of what technology means. Due to the world we are living in now with the pandemic, students have had access to many different platforms, both in the educational sense and in the social aspect. In my future classroom, technology is going to be a crucial part of education and I will teach my students how netiquette should be used in the directional sense in students learning on how to navigate the internet and teach them about safety issues that can come to the surface. There can be so many negatives to the internet, like cyberbullying, getting messages from strangers, etc. Therefore,  netiquette is a fantastic way of educating students to use it responsibly. In teaching students proper netiquette, students will benefit greatly from direct instruction about what having proper netiquette is all about, and how they can keep themselves and others safe online. 

In doing research on netiquette it has strengthened my personal view on how crucial it is to make students aware of the topic of netiquette and how helpful/ impactful it can be to students. Teaching this topic to my future students can be a great way for students to gain an understanding of what netiquette, internet safety and digital citizenship is all about. When teaching students about netiquette, it can be done in many fun and engaging ways. Referring back to my lesson plan, when teaching students about internet safety there are so many fun and engaging videos that are informative about the steps to consider when using the internet that I can show to my future students, and then do an interactive lesson around. When teaching about netiquette, students are never too young or too old to be taught to recognize and understand internet safety, and due to this I believe that it is my responsibility to provide the tools my students need and guide them in staying smart, responsible, and safe online both in the educational aspect and the social aspect of using the internet.
