I don't think they have to pay more than they currently do. they are rich because of the hard work they do, not because they are just being lay everyday (if they don't work, they don't get money). So I don't think the rich should be penalized just for being "rich". they have a reason they are rich.

Spending money on the military as well as development of new technology is essential to keep the balance. It is always better to have precaution and be one step ahead in terms of military technology than other countries in case they attack or destroy world peace.
This has nothing to do with engaging in war btw. When the US first developed nuclear weapons, they aren't afraid to drop them on Japan because they know Japan don't have the same technology. But during the cold war, both are scared to engage war because they know very well what will happen if they start a war. Spending more in military is actually a good method to prevent people from too recklessly attacking and waging war with each other

Right now it may be necessary for the United States to spend so much on the military since they are fighting in the middle east.

I kind of disagree with Othniel. A lot of our parents in Taiwan pay at most 40% income taxes (minimum 20%) because it covers for a lot of things that we basically take for granted such as healthcare. We sacrifice a lot of our money so that we could get affordable care and protection. I also think that the amount of taxes people pay should be dependent on the amount of money they make. The more money they make, the more taxes they would have to pay.

That is really dumb considering how most of these people did put their own effort as well as a combination of luck and determination to reach the place they did. Having tax brackets to as much as 50% tax is already absurd. Half of the money you earn is taken away. Any more tax then that will make people lose the incentive to work hard and gain money. If I say the billionaires should be taxed 99% they would still be richer than almost everyone, but would anyone want to be a billionaire if the tax is that high

Currently, they have already spent around 934 billion on military and is the second largest sector that the government spends money on. Although the first is social security, there are a whole lot more areas that the government could spend money on. Rather than preventing future wars, America should focus on helping their citizens right now.

I think that the wealthy should pay more taxes then regular people with 9-5 jobs. Although they did work hard to make that money, they do still have a surplus of it. The U.S is also in debt so it would greatly benefit the government. I don't think
that anyone should be getting taxed more then 50 percent cause that would be more then their own profit.

@serina & @honggi I disagree with you guys because the US is spending unnecessary amounts on things that they could’ve saved money on. For example, the US is spending around 1/3 of their military budget just for maintenance fees and they’re also keeping deserted military bases open. If they were able to close down military bases that they don’t need, then it would save a lot of money. Moreover, the maintenance fees are making it so that they have no money to conduct researches, construction, and housing. Because of the cost for maintenance, the US have actually been cutting the amounts of soldiers recruited.

I think it is not a wise decision, as every country strives for peace and comfort for themselves spending all this money on military gain nothing. Although you may use military power to scare other countries into not attacking you, but the U.S has so many allies that they shouldn't even be spending that amount of money on military.
