He didn't only think of the practical things we would need.  
He knew we would need things we would never have thought of, just to make us feel better, feel happiness amid misery, appreciate a bit of what heaven might be like.  
Things such as:
The beauty of a sunset or a sunrise
The sound of birdsong as the day wakes up
Soft murmurs:  a breeze in the trees,  water trickling over rocks, 
waves lapping on the seashore
Snowdrops in Winter; primroses, daffodils and tulips in Spring
The scent of lilac, roses, honeysuckle, lavender and wallflowers

The taste and aroma of fresh herbs and good food
Sunshine; daylight; moonlight; starlight
Colour in all its variety
Texture - soft, smooth, rough, sharp, moist, dry
Light, dark, opaque, translucent, dull, reflective - such a variety of things, such a variety of experience.  How did He know we would need all this?  Because he needs them, too, and we are His children and because He knows and loves us.
