         <description><![CDATA[<div>Though this unit, we explored and analyzed protest music and freedom songs from a variety of genres, cultures, and eras, looking to answer the question: "How can we use our voices to spread awareness and promote change?"  The summative assessment asked students to research a topic/issue they were passionate about, write original lyrics for a specific audience/purpose/call to action, and set the words to a melody.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Writing a newspaper article about the causes consequences and responses to a natural disaster. We modelled a couple together in class eg a volcanic eruption and then students could choose their natural disaster. Although they learnt about natural disasters and could research we put several extra steps in to make it more inquiry focused asking them to think about why they were interested in specific events. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Drama as Literature<br>The Crucible<br>Introduction to the importance of understanding context (time, place, circumstances around production). Groups chose from a list of relevant topics and worked together over two lessons to compile slides to present and to share with the class via Managebac. Historical research sounds dull, but the focus on witches helped! As did the inclusion of modern-day cases of 'mass hallucination' events and the film 'The Falling'. Two quite different grade years found this stimulating when then reading the text, the understanding of which became much easier.</div>]]></description>

I did run a small group in which the students struggled with appropriate social interaction. They questioned why they responded to situations the way the did. As they explored this thought they led themselves into a lesson on the impact our thoughts have on our feelings and how our feelings influence our behaviors </div>]]></description>

Their challenge was to solve an economic issue in the role of opposing political parties. They then had to vote for a party who had what they thought was the best solution (not being able to vote for their own party), to win the election, after each party had made their case.</div>]]></description>
