I learnt to be so good at spreadsheets by continually building new systems to solve different problems.  I enjoyed the challenges, the links to mathematics and how creative you need to be to solve all of the different problems that arise.  I really improved by looking up solutions to my problems in google searches and discovering new functions and techniques.    

Over a period of time, you would see my solutions becoming more efficient and using less computer effort over time.  You would see more sophistication and a lot less bugs.  But overall you would always see a different sheet to solve a different problem.  

To teach someone about spreadsheets, I would probably start with a few basic functions before giving them a challenge to build a sheet that turns this raw data into this output.

5. If you were explicitly teaching this skill to someone new, how would you teach them 

Take one step at a time – practice is necessary – never give up – be resilient

1. Embroidery can be difficult because it requires patience and because you have to accept mistakes.

2. I learned to embroider with my father during the pandemic. 
3. You would see a family trying to put "love in the pot" to ease people's tension. 
4. Only my father can really teach! I just got on the creative wave and came up with the pot idea.

2. My university lectures, extra resources (some good ones from USP at that time), online coding, and learning platforms.

2013.1 - Basic programming concepts: input and output, flow control structures, loops, arrays, and functions. Had advice from my teacher and TAs to improve.

2013.2 - Object-oriented programming languages and data structures: classes, methods, accessors, mutators, inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation, pointers, memory allocation, lists, trees, and graphs. Started participating in a robotics competition with the uni robotics lab team.

2014 to 2015 - Practise the previously learned concepts in the uni robotics lab. Participated in a robotics competition and improved the system.

2016 - With the support of my friends from uni and other universities, the system became a system development kit for entering teams in LARC (Latin American Robotics Competition).

2017 - Started a master's degree in systems engineering. Spent nights studying with some friends from IME.

2018 - Learned a new programming language (Java) to teach IB. Not much support here, but loads of time spent on learning platforms.

2019 to 2022 - Learning new programming languages to stay up to date with the industry. Using learning platforms and friends that work in the technology market.

5. I use a similar structure that most universities and online courses use, but with a simplified language.
