Fandoms, or connection hubs as stated in Searching for Oneself on YouTube, are individual groups dedicated to a specific topic. In this case content creators; these fandoms can provide relevance, online appropriations, and aid in self-identification for adolescents. 'Social networks are essential to the discoverability of YouTubers; these networks are part of being “in.” There are also distinctive practice strategies among young people. For example, some teenagers specialize in finding content that they will then share with others.' (Baileys, Millerand, Duque 2020). We also see that adolescents find themselves relating to content creators due to their shared perspectives and desire for external bonds

YouTube has grown into one of the biggest sources of entertainment as a multi-media, online platform. The site where anyone can be a content creator with a click of a button started in February of 2005, gaining traction ever since as people began to accrue followings and create their videos from the comfort of their homes. These perks along with it being accessible to anyone around the world, led to great cultural exchanges that transcended the internet. Memes, popular songs, dance trends, and compilations provided the average viewer with a plethora of information and entertainment to receive. Far much more than radio, TV broadcasting stations, movie theaters, or even streaming services.

YouTube, however, has faced scrutiny throughout the years regarding its toxic content creators, harmful communities, advertising debacles, media hosting, and exposure to impressionable minors. The platform currently uploads over 500 hours worth of content per minute, much of that content far outpacing the likes of cable television and other traditional forms of media by rate alone. We see this with the growing popularity of fandoms, those dedicated to content and their creators. Many make the argument that YouTube is better in versatility, diversity, and quality than traditional forms of media consumption. To further explore these claims and the people that inhabit these new media societies, we must explore our topics at hand.

In conclusion, YouTube is an established platform that has aided in the creation and proliferation of new ideas, information, and entertainment. There is real empirical evidence to be discovered and measured regarding the topics we have discussed. However, we must be mindful of its impacts on media consumption and our youth. Pop culture as we know it may be very different from what we're experiencing even now, with multiple sources reporting on events instead of broadcasting companies hosting the highest bidder.

Youtube is one of the most preferred sights by the younger generation of today, and is used worldwide. Youtube is a big part of today’s culture, especially for teenagers. Youtube really influences teenagers on a deeper level, such as, their personality, sense of humor, self expression, and so much more. On youtube, teens can be themselves, explore new things, and do what they love. Not only are teens watching youtube, some are making their own videos. By teens making their own videos they can truly express themselves. A popular type of video for them to make is vlogs. Vlogging is a type of video where whoever is making it, talks to whomever is watching like an audience. Vlogging usually consists of a run through of day to day life, them getting ready, them doing something fun, ect. This style of video gives a sense of talking with a good friend, and can be comforting. It gives this sense of intimacy because of that sense of talking to a good friend.

(Baileys, Millerand, Duque 2020)

while we think YouTube is democratizing, it actually is dominated by a small number of elite YouTube channels (Rieder, et al., 2020).

The elite channels are actually getting more professional, which means they takes things more serious and taking it as if its the news. Globally, the U.S dominates the YouTube market, but there are a lot of channels organized by languages (French, Russian, etc.) (Rieder, et al., 2020).
