Love that the waiting station has been dropped. I always hated the concept of shaming children. I'd love to understand more on building the positive relationships, is there any scope to offer parenting workshops or anything resource wise you can recommend? Thank you for taking the time on this aspect of helping our children to self regulate, learn and grow (and us too)

How does this become inclusive of all children,
Maybe the target on this or the message may not be understood by every child and what if the children who struggling with understanding these concepts don’t ever get into the reflection board they will become aware of this and it then in true acts as a behaviour board again with children noticing that they are not a part of this.

Powerful messages about building relationships to model and guide appropriate/safe behaviour.

Acknowledging that all behaviour is communicating something for adults to unpick.

Recognition board sounds great! Our son comes home chatting about it in a very positive way.

I like that the policy has the child at the heart of it; recognising that without basic needs being met, the children won't be in a place to learn.

Warmth and care of staff comes across through the approach. Thank you.

Love this, so refreshing to see such a forward-thinking approach to behaviour and a recognition that all behaviour needs empathy and understanding rather than reward and punishment. I particularly like the idea of the children being able to highlight their peers' good behaviour and sharing a collective "woop" when all faces are on the board.

The scripts for restorative conversations, in particular, look really valuable.

I suppose I'd like to know next steps - what sort of training will be provided to teachers and other staff, to support them in moving towards this new model?

Another comment on here suggested parenting workshops - can I recommend Lorraine Lee for this sort of thing as she is really a brilliant speaker and educator about family dynamics and child behaviour.

This policy now really reflects the ethos and culture at Hiltingbury infants. I feel like the key part of the success of this will be the education of all adults and hopefully a cohesive continuation of approach when children move to the juniors.

This change is 100% positive and reflective of the world we now live in and I cannot see any reason why any school would take a punitive / public shaming approach to behaviour management

This is wonderful, thank you for driving this forward as a school. We as a family fully support it, it is music to my ears. I'm attaching a cheat sheet as we seem as adults to be wedded to consequences or the language of consequence which turns out to be punishment (which we know is ineffective and shaming). I also value having additional time with school to problem solve social and emotional challenges together, so we are all on the same page, a team of support around the child.

I recommend Dr Becky Kennedy - Good Inside for all to do with parenting, she follows the philosophy of behaviour as communication and emotion coaching. She has recently published a book, but is also free to follow on various social media platforms. She is a clinical psychologist in the US and follows all principles of educational psychologists. Dr Amber Elliot is a UK clinical psychologist who recommends various strategies for children who have been in care, that honestly would benefit all children and families, no matter what their start.
https://www.waterstones.com/book/superparenting/amber-elliott/sally-donovan/9781785920950

Lastly and which may feel most uncomfortable we need to think about how we were parented which may not have been ideal, are we repeating phrases we heard as a child that may not always be relevant to the present? Or are triggered by certain behaviours that were shut down. This book is a good starter: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Book-Wish-Your-Parents-Read/dp/0241251028/ref=asc_df_0241251028/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=430802624052&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12701180979046474052&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045860&hvtargid=pla-918485885179&psc=1&th=1&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=101598704138&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=430802624052&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12701180979046474052&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045860&hvtargid=pla-918485885179
