My connection with the text would be in the second marking period. The text says, "I like cheeseburgers too much to be a model." I can relate to Melinda when she says this. Yeah it would be nice to be a model, but I just love food in general too much. Model's starve themselves and I wouldn't be able to do that. I would probably cry if I couldn't eat. I love cheeseburgers, french fries, tacos, and mainly just all food.

Inference

I predict Melinda's parents will get angry with her about her grades in the third marking period. The text says, "They keep asking questions like 'What is wrong with you?' and 'Do you think this is cute?'" In the middle of the second marking period, the counselor gave Melinda's parents her report card. Her parents got mad at her and said those things. Another piece of text supporting my inference is, "Social Studies D Biology B English C- Spanish C- Algebra C- Gym C- Art A". Her grades are not the best, besides her art grade. I feel really bad for her because of the traumatic event that happened to her, but her parents are really mean to her. If she would tell someone, then maybe things could get better for her at home. Things don't really seem to be going bad at school, except for seeing Andy Evans.

Prediction

I predict Melinda will tell someone. The title is: Speak, so she obviously speaks to tell someone. A piece of text I got from the book that supports my prediction is, "I should probably tell someone, just tell someone. Get it over with. Let it out, blurt it out." She never says anything against telling someone. This leads me to believe she WILL tell someone. I think one of the first four people might be: Heather, Rachel/Rachelle, or her Mom and Dad.

Overall, its a pretty good book. I personally believe second marking period and on, so far, are the best. First marking period was good, but it gets better. I just love Melinda. A lot of people don't like her, and I can see why, but she is JUST ME!!! I also feel REALLY bad for her at times.

I would recommend this book to a friend because of all of the emotional roller coasters. At times I'm sad, then I'm mad, then I'm just really into the whole concept.
