What does being a good group member look like to them? I would tell them that I want them to customize their rubrics so that they can be specific about the communication and other collaboration processes that work best for them. There is no one way to collaborate successfully, so that's why it's up to them to make transparent their expectations for each other in this specific context. Plus, being able to have those meta conversations about how to collaborate to surface different assumptions and approaches will serve them well in future group dynamics.

Rubrics up until now are just "more work" 
I think they would probably understand my expectations better if I have them work on the rubrics; however I am very limited by time, only seeing them once a week, and don't know if I'd be able to draw them into the process without it seeming to be "more work" than they are willing to do.
Some Rubric components:
Connects with students at their current level of development
Positive teaching via learning sequences  (easily mastered skills toward more challenging with positive feedback in between)
Utilizes a variety of  learning modalities (What will students hear, feel, and see?)

I could ask them to help co-design an assessment rubric, on the grounds that, since much of the course was about developing their ability to assess their own and others' creative work, the rubric creation would be an extension of that learning objective (as well as an extension of their peer collaborations throughout the quarter). And doing this for a presentation assignment would mean that their own presentations might be more effective, which would help everyone learn more from these presentations. 

To myself: I worry about giving my very limited class time to extensive rubric discussion, but it could mean that the extensive time I devote to student presentations across the quarter would be used more effectively if the presentations are consistently better--and if students are more attentive to each other (though they already are quite a bit). ]]> 2023-10-19 17:46:53 UTC https://padlet.com/SearleCenter/97twbt01ruhnpnte/wish/2755001159
