Edward scissorhands is a fairy tale story about love, acceptance and expectations. The film is set in an unreal world, with fantasy characters.

Edward is a person who was scientifically made by a scientist creator, similar to the story line of Frankenstein's monster. He is incomplete and has scissors for hands. This is something that could never happen in our world making it fantasy.
The setting of Edwards home is also very similar to other fairy tales. Ed lives in a massive creepy castle, much like the 'bad guys' or 'villains' in other fairy tales.
The way the town contrasts with Edwards castle makes Eds home appear to be the 'evil' 'dark' 'gloomy' castle that no one wants to go near.
The way the town is overly organised and colour coded is like the movie "the cat in the hat". This adds character to the town and sets up some of the characters and the way they act.
The cat in the hat, similarly to Edward scissorhands, involves a fantasy creature that comes from a whole different way of living and throughout the movie learns more about them self and others.

The film is set out the same as a fairy tale story. Close ups on characters faces let you know the characters and helps you understand their emotions.
When Kim is in the snow from Eds ice sculpting, the camera goes close up on her face and hands. It makes it an intimate moment even though they're not physically together. The close up on Kim's hands really highlight the fact they might not ever actually get to be together because of the fact Edward has scissors for hands. The snow close up really displays how something beautiful and so special that Edward is making can never be shared by his touch only by Kim's hands. This is similar to fairy tale stories in the way it portrays "forbidden love" such as the story of Romeo and Juliette and Cinderella. Without noticing, the beautiful yet kind of creepy sound track adds to Edward Scissorhands in so many different ways. The film has a similar sound track with not any particular songs but a few repeating effortless pieces. These pieces have all been made especially for the movie and fit in so well with their allocated scenes. When put in sad or stressful scenes, the music changes to fit the mood, and sometimes the piece is continuous and changes throughout the scene. It can make you feel sad, nervous, reckless, or heart warmed. Sometimes there is no need for words as the music does all the talking. Similar sound tracks are found in movies such as 'Bambi' and other Tim Burton movies like 'Coraline', 'Nightmare before Christmas' and 'Ms Peregrines School for Particular Children'.
'Bambi' is similar in the way the music builds up emotion and really tells the story. Tim Burton's movies are all very unique but very similar in their creepy vibe and twisted, imaginative, unreal story lines. If you listen to any of his sound tracks you can straight way tell it's his style. Edwards costume is dark and has many buckles on it, this makes his standout and appeal so different to the town and everyone in it. I think that was a really good choice because it is such an important part of the story line. This ties to the idea of it being a fairy tale because he is like a 'monster' someone that isn't and never could exist in the real world. Eds make up also tells a lot about him and especially his hands. He has scars all over his face which are from his hands cutting himself. It looks realistic and I really like how they have done the colour of his face, so colourless and pale which makes him seem dead or less human, that adds to his character. The colour scheme of the town to Edward is like some Disney fairy tales like 'Maleficent' and 'The Little Mermaid'. In these films the villains or specific characters are made to have a completely different range of colours to the rest of the others.
