Laguna is among the eight provinces that rose and rebel against the Spanish which was lead by Generals Paciano Rizal of Calamba and Severino Taino of Pagsanjan, Agueda Kahabagan and Miguel Malvar. Its contribution to the Philippine revolution against the Spaniards rule is represented in one of the 8 rays in the country’s flag.

Upon research it turns out that the problem of Laguna Lake is far from just being an aesthetic problem but affects not just the people that live near there but the entire ecosystem of the lake. A perennial problem, this is what the Mayor of Cadona described the situation of Laguna De Bay. This is described like this because the lake is hardly visible, it is a see of green, fish pens are clogged by an impenetrable mass of water hyacinth. And as a fishing town near this bay, it affected the transportation of little boats to and from the island. It can also cause flooding or preventing subsidence of floodwaters. With that said, rehabilitating Laguna de Bay would not only be focusing on SDG 14 but rather many others such as sustainable cities and communities, climate action, clean water and sanitation. But I chose SDG 14 because I think that taking action for the ecosystem of the lake is just as important as taking actions for the people that live near it and sometimes government officials forget to realize that. The probable solution to this problem is to have the three biological control insects in order to control water hyacinth, these are the mottled water hyacinth weevil, chevroned water hyacinth weevil and water hyacinth month. These insects reduce the size and vigor of water hyacinth and reduce the production of seed.These insects feed on water hyacinth. Also adults of these weevil’s attack on water hyacinth and feed on the leaf pseudo lamina  and  petioles  by  removing  tissues  and  the  larvae  tunnel inside the petioles and the crown The positive effect of this biological method of control is that It is the most effective and most environmental friendly. This technological advancement does not have any published negative effects.

This city is among the most urbanized cities in Laguna and houses many infrastructures, companies and factories. The urbanization of this city and the other cities of laguna nearby can be attributed to the fact that they are near Metro Manila. However, studies argue that the urbanization of Laguna as well as Calabarzon, poses not just opportunities but also burdens. The data gathered from the study Mojares (2013) show that the effects of urbanization created an increase in the magnitude of poor families and increase in number of families residing in slum areas. Thus with the urbanization should come the development of sustainable cities and communities, something which the government should focus on. There are 4 possible ways that technology can help in addressing the housing affordability crisis. First is reducing the cost of supplying new housing. An article by Williams and Pardo (2019) states that technology can make housing cheaper when it comes to generating new units. For example some companies have used 3D printing and modular housing construction that builds the house parts in a factory. This will reduce the cost of time of construction because it is within a controlled environment. Other way that technology can help is to be able to expand the access to capital. They help buyers in providing the best mortgage easier by taking on and automating every thing this includes  the filling out application etc. Next is being able to improve the risk prediction methods AI or artificial intelligence and blockchain technology helps people in better predicting the  actual relevant to loan and performance. Latsy it can reduce the cost of loan administration. The article stats that loan administration is costly. The block chain technology can reduce the cost of a loan administration in a way that it automates the process. This includes the payment and transfer records, all due dates and servicing information are in one place. As this article clearly shows, technology can help the housing crisis problem in more than one way but to be able to utilize this will involve a great deal of cost and investment. The downside to these solutions is that the current situation of Laguna does not have the right resources to further take these plans into action. These kinds of technological advancement would be seen in the further future of the city.
