Korean War

The Korean War provided the first confrontation between two nuclear powers. North Korea was Communist and backed by the USSR and China. South Korea was not Communist and was backed by the U.S and other U.N forces during the war.

Japan, Atomic Bomb

The first atomic bomb, named Little Boy, was dropped on Hiroshima from the Enola Gay, a B-29 bomber, at 8:15 AM on August 6, 1945. The second bomb, named Fat Man, was dropped on Nagasaki from the Bockscar, also a B-29 bomber, at 11:02 AM on August 9, 1945. After the first minute of dropping “Fat Man,” 39,000 men, women and children were killed. 25,000 more were injured. Both cities were leveled from the bombs and this, in turn, forced Japan to surrender to the United States. The war was finally over.
