I used this book last month with my students. The book details attributes on how to be a good friend like active listening, being an ally and sharing with others. I adapted this book and my students loved to see the colors and words that related to their peers in class. I even expanded on the concept of "sharing" by having students practice sharing toys in class and modeling how to be kind to each other :) it was a lot of fun and they loved it too!

Our Class is a Family was part of our September curriculum by my school district. I was introduced to the book and it was a great reading into the new school year! I love this book because it shows how diverse our classrooms and students are. For my students, they were able to see themselves reflected in the story and recognize their peers as well. The book speaks to making friends in the classroom, learning from mistakes and creating a class community through friendship :)

I was looking forward to ordering this book for my students because I believe this ties into teaching friendship.

This book caught my eye because it was a funny story about a bad apple and a silly worm becoming best friends. This book is different from the other mentor texts because it doesn't list ways to be a good friend; but rather a funny story that students can relate to and have fun engaging with! The story describes how the apple and the worm aren't destined to be friends but they finish each other' sentences and games haha! But the book is super cute and allows students to see how friendship comes in many different colors and fruits :)

By helping each other navigate some challenges, they grow a friendship with one another. I liked this book because sheds light on how friends can help one another.
