How do you think you learned your perceptions on the elderly?

I grew up in the LDS culture so I think a lot of it came from that background. We would take care of many of them as young men and do service for them. This made me perceive them as fragile but important at the same time. Otherwise why would we be doing service for them. I have also done a lot to take care of my grandparents and i find that they are very knowledgable.

How did you learn about religious matters?

Again, I grew up in the LDS culture. Both my parents come from families that are also active members of the church. I didn't really have a choice it was just part of life and I didn't know any different. I was told to rely on my parents faith until i gained my own. As I grew up and learned more and more about different cultures and religions I slowly started to fall away from the LDS church. When I moved out of the house and went to college was when I finally stopped going. I believe in a upper power or that there is more than life on earth for us. But I do not consider myself part of any religion anymore.

Was competition or cooperation stressed?

Competition was definitely stressed in my family. I grew up with many cousins close to my same age. It seemed as if we were always competing. We would wrestle for everyone every-time we gathered as a family. We would compete in sports and who did well in school. Even with friends it was always who is the best who will work the hardest. I think it was a motivating factor which has caused my personality today to be very competitive in everything Ido.

Who made important decisions in your family?

My dad was the primary decision maker growing up. My mom did heavily influence his decision but it was always clear to me that when my dad his mind set on something he was going to make that decision. It is something that i think derives from the culture we live in. Not just from a religious background but in most of the families i knew they were the same way.
