The angel recites the first verses of the Quran to him and tells him that he has been God's apostle. Later, Muhammad is ordered to summon his people to worship the one God, yet they reject him and his believers and started to persecute them. 

622 C.E - After being persecuted in Mecca, Muhammad with the followers moved to Yathrib (later known as Medina), a nearby town where the people adopted Islam. This is the start of the said Islamic calendar and the "hijrah," or "emigration." Muhammad creates an Islamic state in Medina based on the laws given in the Quran as well as the divinely inspired advice he receives. He eventually starts inviting additional tribal groups and nations to join Islam.

630 C.E - Muhammad had a huge number of supporters and then they return to Mecca. He visits the city quietly, and all of the city's residents eventually join Islam.
