Star Wars (1977), Establishing Shot. The first 7 minutes of the film first shows a planet, small but significant, and the battle raging on in space. The contrast between the giant star cruiser and much smaller rebel ship shows us that one is more powerful than the other. The immensity of the cruiser, which seems to go on forever, symbolizes power over the little guy. It's going to be a story of good vs. evil, or "David vs. Goliath."

Furious 7 (2015)
Paul Walker died in the making of the movie so for the second half of the movie they used his brother for Paul's character. In the end of the movie they show Bryan (Paul) and Dom (Vin Diesel) as best friends driving their cars side by side in the hills. A sad song is playing (see you again) and they both have close ups of each of them. Then it shows an establishing shot of the two cars taking separate roads, showing that their journey is over for now but they will meet again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cPMriE8fKU

Titanic: 1997
Close up shot. at the end of the movie Titanic, this is Jacks death scene. You see details from the camera being so close they are in water while the minutes go by you can see the characters hair getting covered with ice. The type of shot i decided was close up due to being able to see much detail of the characters face and the fog of their breath. This scene showed the characters being very vulnerable and how much danger they were in. This shot is important because it zooms in on a moment that two characters share and its showing love for one another which was special. Having it be so close it was like noone else was around, so all eyes were on them.
The intensity in this scene was i believe to be very strong, just because it is showing the laugh minute of Jacks life and it is a huge part of the movie. Not a lot was being shown in the particular scene, but the death of Jack intensified the moment of this scene.

Fast and Furious (2009),
The opening scene shows a tractor trailer truck pulling lots of gas. The gas heist takes place in the Dominican Republic and the background is full of desert hills. The close up of the road shows the cracks and how old and uncared for it is. The sound of the truck is very loud and overwhelming until the heist cars/ trucks come into the picture and take over making the truck seem less important. The opening scene of this movie shows that it is going to be about supercharged, nice cars that are driven by "convicts" and they are used to steal gas and make money off of it. Later it comes to play that the cop investigating them puts a twist on the story.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSRuxifbxsw&sns=em

Hook (1991)
This scene uses mostly medium shots to show the choreography of the action in the scene, while saving close ups for character interactions to better convey their feelings. These two shots do a good job of switching the focus between carefree action, and the emotions the characters feel, which gives everything meaning. The distance of the camera also helps show off the impressive set, which helps the feeling of fantasy, and the large scale of the battle.

Jaws(1975)
Extreme close up shot.
In this short clip, there are multiple times where the camera pans back and forth to the view of the extreme close up of the shark's mouth and its teeth. This clip shows the point of view of Quint who is being attacked and what he is forced to look at the bloody, massive teeth that are thrashing in his face. In the shot the sharks jaws are huge and they are portrayed to be very powerful, so powerful that no man could pry his way out or escape. The feeling that this shot portrays of intensity, and curiosity if this beast can be beat is the feeling of the whole movie, that is why this scene is so significant.

Inglourious bastards: 2009
Opening scene, In this establishing shot You see a French Farm owner Using his axe and In the blurry background you see three German cars coming up an old narrow road. as you go further into the scene you are slowly panning around the SS officer and the farm owner. Their conversation consists of the farm owner hiding a Jewish family. and when the Conversation is over the SS officer is about to leave the camera zooms in on a close up of one of his family members under the floor With their hands over their mouth in fear trying to stay quiet, when watching this I was waiting for the classic sneeze that gives the hiding spot away.
This opening scene is important because It sets the ground for the whole movie. But throughout the whole intro they use a whole veritey of different shots that make the intro to this movie great. https://youtu.be/QfSjs_6MZOQ
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjrkcLNzd3RAhVJ7oMKHXwzBRgQtwIIGTAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fvimeo.com%2F80494528&usg=AFQjCNFCH7fLQiOK_0mPDhzjQBHCHoLOOw

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)

Extreme close up shot.

During the finale of this film there is a stand off between the Good (Clint Eastwood), the Bad (Eli Wallach), and the Ugly (Lee Van Cleef). To increase the intensity of the moment, the shots move incrementally between each character, rotating from bust, to close-up, to extreme close-up. In the last rotation we are forced to focus on the eyes only, which are darting from one foe to the other. These extreme close-up shots are being used to indicate that the characters are trying to determine the actions of the others through their eyes rather than their hand movements.

Apocalypse Now (1979)
The first shot of Apocalypse Now is an establishing shot. It shows that the movie is going to be set in the jungle. Also by the explosions, helicopters, and yellow gas, it adds that there is some type of extreme fighting in the jungle. By the close up shots of the white man laying in a bed, you can assume that the man is an American based on his looks. Using prior knowledge, history classes, and the time that the movie was made, you can infer that the jungle is Vietnam because that is the only reason a white man would be in Vietnam, and there would also be fighting in Vietnam. The explosions, helicopters, and yellow gas tell that this movie takes place during the Vietnam War. This establishing shot does not have any monuments in it like most establishing shots do, but the helicopters ad explosions really help you figure out where the movie is going to be taking place.

Top Gun (1986)
The establishing shots are used to set the scene/tone of the movie. In Top Gun, the opening scenes show some of the credits along with a sequence of establishing shots played to an upbeat song. This simple into gives the audience a little bit of background on what the movie is about and what the characters are going to be like before they are actually introduced. The fog and silhouettes leave you with a little bit of mystery. It makes you wonder and puts you on the edge of your seat - which happens a lot during this movie.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)
Close up shots are used often in this movie to give the reactions of few, specific characters to the scene taking place. In this scene we have the establishing shot of Arnie climbing the water tower that continuously cuts back to close ups of Gilbert and Becky, two of the few people who love and understand him. The establishing shot helps us as viewers to perceive the scale of the danger in this scene. The close-ups help us take a huge crowd scene and narrow the action down to three important people and let them inform the scene. The use of the close-up helps to connect characters in this scene without them being in close physical proximity.

Green Mile(1999)
Extreme Close Up:
The scene in which you see John Coffey's supernatural connection to other people and other beings through his violent reaction to Eduard Delacroix's execution. He holds a mouse he has named Jingles throughout the execution and we can see the incredible amount of pain he goes through as Eduard is executed. The camera remains very close to his face of hands the whole time, switching back and forth between him and Eduard.

King Kong 2005
In the scene where King Kong fights the two dinosaurs there are many close up shots of king kong's face during the battle. Every time clearly showing his emotion (anger). I thought it was interesting they used close ups as frequently as they did during a scene when so much was going on other than just his facial expressions.
Another time during this scene they used an establishing shot. Showing the dinosaur on the left, kong on the right, and the girl in the middle. This shot was of a standoff preparing the audience for the fight.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtzhV84XEp4
