Everybody in the entire world speaks, at least, one language.

If you are capable of learning your mother language, what makes you think you're not capable of learning a second language?

In this case the "English" language!!

You started by mimicking sounds, what sounded like funny noises, then more time passed and you started to speak one word here and there...

What about today?

Today you can talk, you can read and you can understand those around you, right?

How did it happen???

Let's see, shall we?

Your parents have been speaking to you in Portuguese since you were born. And everybody that you have met in your entire life.

The soap operas, the movies, the cartoons... and your need to speak started to develop.

Surround yourself with podcasts, memes, videos, movies, songs...

And try to listen actively, try to pay attention.

You won't sound eloquent like a professional lecturer, but you will be starting to developing some skills.

We are not looking for perfection, we are looking for progress!

(At the end, we are aiming for perfection, but I don't wanna scare you now!)

Language is just like going to the gym. It takes a lot of time to get in shape, and when you have the shape, you need to maintein.

It's the same for a new language.

I can share my experiences with languages that I started to learn, that I studied, that I can grasp some words, but I can't speak any longer due the lack of practice.

It is what it is.

Well, not always, but in this case it's the easier way.

Accept that English sounds different. There is a two thousand years of explanation of "why" that batshit crazy people like me try to study, but you definitly don't need to study linguistics to speak a language, after all you speak Portuguese and never cared about "por que" and "porque" are spelled differently, or why words like "jornalista" is written with an "A" for both genders.

Or did you?

And you can already speak one language: Portuguese!

Which is a beautiful language. Did you know "saudade" is a word that only exists in the Portuguese language?

Anyway, you can speak, you can read, and you can write!

Maybe not in English yet... but we will get there!

Exposition:

You decide how you are going to exposure yourself to English. The old trick of watching series, listening to music, and the new ones like following a celebrity on instagram work. Outside the class, you need to be exposed to the language.

Repetition:

You need to repeat these tasks on a daily basis.

Speak to yourself, record yourself, write down things in English, maybe your thoughts, even if it's totally wrong, you will get there, that's how bilingual people do.

Practice:

The practice is similar to repetition.

Do the exercises, write a "verb list" PLEASE! Write a vocabulary boost, increase your repertoir, write down new words, see what works best for you, and just do it!

English is a Germanic language and its grammar is quite different. This one I have your back a 100%!

Of course you can speak without knowing the grammar, but think about Brazilians who don't respect the grammar...

My goal here is to make you comfortable to make mistakes, and remind you that you are going to speak English at the end. But what I can do it to prepare classes, get some good videos - real life videos - challange you, make you feel out of your comfort zone in order to learn, but the final job is yours.

You are the one who needs to take action, as you did when you were a baby and needed to communicate with your parents, so they could feed you, clean you, and make you nap.
