Harriet Tubman was born either in 1820 or 1821. Her exact birth date is unknown because slave owners didn't record their slaves's birth dates. Harriet was born a slave to her mother Harriet Green and father Ben Ross. She was the fifth out of nine children. Her owner, Edward Brodas, owned Harriet along with her parents and siblings. Growing up, she endured a painful scar on her neck every time the master's baby cried. Harriet was only five when she began taking care of the whining baby. It was a difficult life being a slave.
