In turn they will be able to more finely look for work with their clients specific goals, strengths and weaknesses in mind. They can help others understand how they work best to help develop strong natural supports as well as help guide training so that it is tailored to the client. It helps ES because when a client enjoys what they are doing and ES can build them strong, sustainable natural supports they can be sure that they have helped their client flourish and reach their potential.

Sara Peterson - GA A person-centered plan helps an employment specialist hone in on the skills and interest of an individual so that it is easier to identify tasks and jobs that they can do and will be enjoyable for them. Having joy in one's work is a key element in job satisfaction and work retention. A PCP is also important as a motivational tool for the individual being served and their whole team as it identifies and clearly reveals all the positive abilities that person is bringing to the table. Sometimes people with disabilities get discouraged about the possibilities of reaching their goals because their focus is only on the barriers they see to success. A PCP can isolate problems and barriers and provide opportunities through brainstorming and collaboration to come up with creative ways to overcome barriers and clear the way for the person to use their strengths to contribute the way they are most able to society.

Person Centered Planning is an extremely important component of employment support because an analysis of persons work history/educational background alone does not provide a comprehensive picture of who a person is. Additionally, this sort of surface level analysis would lead to individuals receiving services to be evaluated completely based upon their experiences that may have little to do with them as people. Through a discovery process and PCP, a more complete picture of a persons, skills, abilities, and interests can be created and consulted throughout the job development process.

A person-centered employment plan sets the EP and the client up for success! It gives the EP a well rounded view of the individual's skills and interests when it includes the client's supports. It helps the team address any concerns up front and allows them to prepare for where support will be needed as well. It sets the client up for success because we want to find a fitting job for them in a timely manner, and the PCEP can reduce the amount of bandwidth needed to accomplish that.

The EP will be a new set of eyes that can provide a fresh perspective on the types of jobs a client might be suited for. Sometimes it can be easy to limit our thinking or have tunnel vision when you've worked with an individual for a long period of time. A well thought out PCEP can provide the EP with all the information they need to get creative and find employment.

The information found in a PCEP can be a huge benefit to writing resumes, filling out applications, or conducting interviews.

I have heard DSP's or their managers mention that a client is not excelling at their job and it's because it doesn't fit their skills and interests. This information was realized after already finding the client a job. At this point they recognized that the discovery profile was not as thorough as it could have been. This is a great example of how a thorough and well thought out PCEP can save time and resources.

A PCP not only helps the EC but also the job seeker to see more possibilities then even they thought of. It showcases ones strengths and sometimes their passion for what is really reachable. A PCP is like going cross country driving with a really great map. Not having one, you may end up on dirt roads for miles.... and get lost. Bring your map!

A Person-Centered Plan is an amazing tool for a job developer/employment specialist - especially if the client they are working with is motivated and looking forward to getting a job. As the JD uses the plan to get to know their client, they can think about all the connections they have made in the community, and connections they would like to make on behalf of the client. It's a great foundation for matching needs and wants. I think it can speak to the culture of the businesses you're developing as well as job descriptions.

A person centered plan helps an employment specialist depending on when it was done and at what stage of their life. It helps to lay the ground work or baseline of where to go. It also tells me who was on his team earlier and who is currently on it. It also helps me with facilitating a positive meeting. I work with mostly students that are coming out of transition services. Most the time it is the negative that starts the meeting. So having this would help it be a positive start. It also tells me where I can start thinking of ideas or what directions to go.

A facilitated PCP will help an Employment Specialist in many ways. A PCP allows you to learn about a person's likes, dislikes, talents, skills, preferences, etc. With this abundance of information regarding a person, an employment specialist has a lot to work with when seeking out job opportunities. They can use what they know to approach different businesses, and assess which would be a good fit or not. A PCP can also help an employment formulate questions to ask businesses by using the information learned about the individual.

I think a facilitated person centered employment plan is beneficial for an Employment Specialist in every way. The more information you have about a person's strengths and interests the better. I think by having an official plan like this with input from multiple people from different parts of the individual's life, you're bound to get some pretty helpful information that you otherwise wouldn't know. As an Employment Specialist the better you know the person the more successful you'll be (hopefully!) in finding them good work that aligns with their interests, skills, and goals.
I also feel that as an Employment Specialist sometimes you don't have time to get to dive as deep into getting to know a person as you would have wanted to, so having a PCP in place is a great tool. It's also really helpful to know who else is on a person's team and who you can go to if you need additional support in helping someone.

A person-centered plan is a necessary tool when thinking of employment because it uses the input and perspective of multiple people to create an overall snapshot of the person's life. Every individual has different preferences and needs for employment, and meeting those needs lead to a happier employee, employer, and a lasting job that can lead to new networks, meaningful relationships, and stability. Being employed is a privilege that can change someone's life, and at the same time, our place of work can have deep impacts on how we and others view ourselves. It is important to work in a position that you feel good about! That being said, it can be easy to work a job you are not all that thrilled with, and that can lead to stress, not performing well, and loss of the job. A PCP helps an employment specialist find a good job match for potential employees be narrowing down the job search to things that the person will enjoy. For example, someone may prefer working alone, and others may prefer working in a busy, social environment. Some people cannot work around food. Some people like to sit and work, some like to move around. There are countless factors that impact how you feel at work. Furthermore, everyone has their own sets of likes, dislikes, passions, talents, areas of interest and history. Having this information available to the employment specialist allows them to pursue jobs that best fit the person they're supporting.
