Huntington's disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes a continuous breakdown of nerve cells in the person's brain. It deteriorates a person's physical and mental abilities usually during their middle age and has no cure. Symptoms usually appear between the ages of 30 to 50, and worsen over a 10 to 25-year period. Eventually, the weakened person falls to pneumonia, heart failure or other things. Everyone has the gene that causes HD, but only the people that inherit the expansion of the gene will develop HD and will usually pass it on to each of their children. Every person who inherits the expanded HD gene will eventually develop the disease. Over time, HD affects the person's ability to reason, walk and talk.

In Joe's past his mother passed when he was in his twenties. Joe's Mother was unable to walk, eat, and dress and undress herself. Soon after she died from pneumonia. But the doctors did not know what made her cause not to walk, eat, and dress herself. It is possible that Joe's Mother have Huntington's disease because it is also genetic but it could also mean that Joe could have gave his teenage daughter Huntington's disease.

Joe's disease is not contagious to anyone unless he genetically passes it to a child of his own. Joe's teenage girl will not developed the disease now. Only when she is at her middle age of her life. But it is still possible for her to have it about a 50% chance she could have the Huntington's disease.

One of the tests that we recommend for Joe is a Neurological test. Neurological tests or examination is an examination where doctors examine your reflexes, muscle strength, muscle tone, coordination, and balance to understand where you are at in Huntington's. Another recommendation for Joe is a genetic test that identifies if Joe has the mutation in his DNA, the chemical process involves collecting Joe's cells, dissolving his cell membrane, and gathering his DNA molecules together. Once Joes DNA has been isolated it undergoes a variety of many different genetic tests.

Question 1 What mystery disease do you think is causing Joe’s symptoms? Why do you believe this is the correct diagnosis?

We discovered it to be Huntington's disease. We believe this is true because according to Joe's symptoms and our research it was the only conclusion that makes sense.

Question 4 After completing the pedigree, what do you think caused Joe’s mom to develop pneumonia and die?

We think that the mom also had Huntington's disease because that would also explain how he got the disease in the first place he could have gotten it from his mother.
