Forgiveness: Prodigal Son by The Rolling Stones

http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/rollingstones/prodigalson.html

In The Crucible, forgiveness is shown when Elizabeth Proctor finally forgives John Proctor for his affair that he had with Abigail Williams, a younger teen earlier. She expresses her forgiveness in Act 4, which was very hard for her to do. This song by The Rolling Stones also shows the theme of forgiveness, when a young son steals and his father cries out to god to forgive his son. The father also finds forgiveness in his heart for his son. Although the circumstances were different, both The Crucible and the song "Prodigal Son" by The Rolling Stones show forgiveness.

Trust: A Matter of Trust by Billy Joel

http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/billyjoel/amatteroftrust.html

In The Crucible, trust is also a theme shown. In Act 2, Rev. Hale must believe and trust that Marry Warren is telling the truth about the poppet being hers. Although Elizabeth was still taken and accused, by Rev. Hale having to trust Mary, it helped Elizabeth. Rev. Hale had to trust Mary in this case. In this song, "Matter of Trust" by Billy Joel, Joel sings about how the trust he had in his love will save him from getting hurt. Both of these have different situations, but they both can be related back to trust.

Private v Public Self: Me by The 1975

http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/1975/me.html

In The Crucible, the theme of Private v Public self is displayed in Act 1 when the girls are found dancing, chanting, and just doing strange things in the woods. They acted like this then, but when It was brought up in public, they said they were doing something else. The girls were acting different in private than they were in public. It shows that people can be different in private than they are in public. The song "Me" by The 1975, is about someone putting on a certain happy face for the people on the outside, but on the inside, this person is not as they seem. This shows the difference between private and public self.

Private v Public Self: Let It Happen by Tame Impala

Mary did do this for a while, but once there was too much pressure on her she decided to switch sides and go against John Proctor. This completely ruined John Proctor and showed that people will act different privately than they will in public. In the song "Let It Happen" by Tame Impala, the songwriter expresses that he is tired of living two different lives because hes different with himself and with people. He shows that he is different in private than he is in public.
