Deprivation

According to research conducted in the in the municipalities of Roxas, Arakan, Magpet and Matalam province of North Cotabato, some of the tribal people of north cotabata are still heavily reliant of their folk healers when suffering from illnesses. In addition, this research was also able to identify that their treatments are based on medicinal plants which lack pharmacological investigations to prove their effectivity in treating their corresponding conditions (Nuvio & Raive, 2018).

Technological Advancement

Rural health centers are already available in the municipalities mentioned. But some of the other ways of advocating the importance of prioritizing the services provided in the health centers, would be outreach programs that would enable a health team to provide basic services such as checkups, provision of medicines, and health teachings. But since these are tribal areas, communicating with their leader would be recommended to assess the readiness of the community to receive health services.

Reference:

Rubio, M.

Deprivation
According to research conducted in kabacan, North Cotabato; there are a lot of structural and nonstructural factors that contribute to the vulnerability of the area to flooding (Ylagan, 2019). They utilized a pre-flood vulnerability capacity assessment approach in collecting data about the area’s vulnerability to experience high damage to properties when flooding in floodplain areas such as Kabacan, North Cotabato. Some of the structural properties that make their area vulnerable to flood are the buildings that are one story high and have an elevation lower than street level. They were also able to identify that the most vulnerable area is the urban center of the Kabacan municipality, but the whole municipality is at risk since they are adjacent to a river and naturally a low-lying ground (i.e., floodplain).

Reference:
Ylagan, M.

1. Water gates – the installation of flood gates could have prevented the overflow of of the kabacan River. Water gates are PVC devices that prevents flood on a specific road or area by using the pressure of the oncoming water to anchor the whole structure

2. WIPP: Water inflated property protector- this could be placed in houses with low elevation to prevent the flood from entering their houses. The WIPP is a vinyl-coated polyester that surrounds a whole structure to serve as a barrier against oncoming waters. They are easily deployed and stored which is very convenient for repeated use.

3. Quick dam- this could be the most economical solution since the materials are common and cheaper. Quick dams are water barriers that are bought folded and compressed which will increase in size after absorbing the water from the flood, both serving as a barrier and reducing the water from the flood.
