MOHAMAD AMIN FIRDAUS BIN KHAIRUDIN (S27624)

Question :
Why soilless cultivation is important?
Soilless culture has often been called hydroponics or nutrient-culture. The methods of growing plants without soil fall into two general categories such as Liquid culture which is true hydroponics and aggregate culture. The hydroponics where nutrient solution is re-circulated after re-aeration and adjustment of pH and nutrient levels and aggregate culture, where the nutrient solution is supplied to plants via an irrigation system through the media, and excess solution is allowed to run to waste or the solution is re-circulated. The important of the soilless cultivation to encourage the early delivery, efficiency and increased quality of soilless farming and provides balanced nourishment to plants develop early with increased quality. Moreover to eliminate the burden among farmers because eliminate the needed for soil, farming done in field without soil. Furthermore, helps to maintain the plant nourishment were soilless farming makes it possible to select the type and timing, and adjust the quantity of the elements needed by the plants. The next important is to prevent the disease and weed control through the liquid nutrition and growth environment can be sterilized and diseases caused by the roots can be avoided. No weed problem since plants are grown in controlled environment. And then, to maintain the root environment were nutrition intake of the plants is positively affected by controlling the temperature and oxygen level around the roots which can be controlled more accurately in soilless cultures. Finally, water economy is under control which is the operating costs are lowered since water used in soilless farming can be measured, it is not wasted and it is automated.

In addition, the food produced is safer and better control. This is because it controls the disease that is in the garden rather than the crop. Nowdays, this cultivation is widely use among farmers. This is because cultivation method is a new technology that can provide more yields and increasing of the sources to human and countries. This soilless method can also provide many advantages and importance towards economical values in agricultures sector.

one of the importance of soilless cultivation is to increase the cultivation activities in which to be carried out in areas that cannot be planted due to soil inconsistency because land areas are not suitable for piracy activities. In addition, water can also be well managed because the plants will be watered directly to the plants through drip irrigation system. The fertilization process can also be done efficiently because fertilizers can be mixed together with irrigation systems to facilitate the nutrient-absorbing plants for example the mixing process of A and B formulations in reservoirs. Diseases and pests management are also easy to control with the used of soilless media that are free from any diseases and pests for example cocopeat. Then, the potential for high quality and more secure yields because the environment and materials used are very efficient for plant growth. The cultivate of soilless plants need smaller space compared to the cultivation of the land even though the yield for both cultivation is the same. Weed maintenance can also be done easily because it is grown in polybags containing cocopeat and others. Lastly, pH control. All of the minerals are contained in the water. That means you can measure and adjust the pH levels of your water mixture much more easily compared to the soils. That ensures the optimal nutrient uptake for plants.

ONG JIAN XIANG(S26927)

IMPORTANCE OF SOILLESS CULTIVATION

Soilless cultivation is important as it is one of the most environmentally responsible ways to follow our growing urban population. This is because soilless cultivation can lower down the environmental impact as soilless cultivation is a type of controlled agriculture which is less resources needed. Besides, soilless cultivation uses less in in water consumption as it is in a closed system nature, for example like hydroponic growing. As the chemical substances is controlled and will be disposed in a right way, compared to land-based cultivation, it can reduce water and land pollution more effectively.
In addition, soilless cultivation is a more effective plant growing way compared to land-based cultivation. First at all, soilless cultivation can maximize the use of spaces through vertical growing techniques. The soilless cultivated plants will be growing more effectively as they will be less effected by some factors like weather, basic needs and nutrient problems.
Soilless cultivated plant will also have a higher health and nutritional value. This is because soilless cultivated plants will need lower concern of chemical substances like toxic pesticides and herbicides because the crops are protected indoors for example like in greenhouse. Being grown indoors reduces the risk of the plants to expose to pests. This showed that soilless cultivation improved the health and nutritional value as hydroponically grown produce is in a better quality.

Moreover when its compared to soil cultivation, the yields from soilless cultivation are significantly higher as a result of intensive practices and the possibilities of continuous, year-round production. Furthermore, soilless agriculture does not require the use of toxic chemicals.Unlike soil-based agriculture, where farmers have to use fertilizers to increase crop yield and spray pesticides to keep weeds and pests away, crops are somewhat protected from pests and weeds.Lastly, nutrient and growing media loss is significantly reduced with soilless cultivation because the nutrient requirements for crops are determined in advance.

WHY SOILLESS CULTIVATION IS IMPORTANT

Soilless culture systems are classified according to the type of substrate they use, how the nutrient solution is delivered to the plants and what happens to the solution after it drains away such as open or closed. Soilless media can be like sand, gravel, pebbles, perlite, rock wool, vermiculite, rice hulls, peat, sawdust, and coconut coir. As for what makes a soilless medium a good growing medium, the physical, chemical and biological properties should be considered when assessing the functioning of the system. This is why soilless agriculture is the way of future growing in so many parts of the world that have little to no arable land.

Some of the important soilless cultivation are for environment. Environment is one of the biggest setbacks to traditional and industrialized agriculture is that it is at the mercy of the elements. Drought, wind, floods, and climate change in general are affecting the business of agriculture and causing devastating losses to farmers and their families. In soilless agriculture, crops are grown indoors and protected from the potentially negative impacts of the elements.

Beside that, water usage for crops. In land-based farming, water is absorbed into the ground and a significant portion of the water consumed is not actually benefiting the plant directly. In a controlled and soilless growing environment, the amount of water consumed can be not only monitored but controlled to efficiently utilize only what is needed.

Lastly, chemicals use for crops. The uncertainty of the side effects of consuming these chemicals has people around the world looking towards alternate food choices. In soilless agriculture there is less or no need for potentially toxic pesticides and chemicals because the crops are protected indoors. Being grown indoors reduces the risk of a plant exposure to pests.

Hydroponics or soilless cultivation are becoming increasingly popular among the people because of its easy-to-apply methods and there are beneficial benefits. Typically, hydroponic plants are carried out on a small scale at home as a hobby or massive commercial destination.

Among the advantages of hydroponics cultivation are plants that produce without using soil medium. Media such as coconut fiber, mineral fiber, sand, brick fragment and wood powder can be used as a substitute for ground media. Hydroponics is a method of planting trees by providing almost all nutrient needs by dissolving them into water and given to tree roots. Hydroponic purpose is to enable the required mineral salts to be available and can be absorbed by tree roots directly through water without using soil medium. Hydroponic plants also do not require large areas. One of the hydroponic methods is the aeroponic method derived from the aero word which means air and the phonus which means force. The aeroponic working principle is to dissolve the nutrient solution in the form of fog until the root of the plant. The nutrient solution will be absorbed by the root of the plant. Plants on aeroponic systems are planted in suspended form. Hydroponic plants can also be placed indoors as a natural decor.

In addition, hydroponics cultivation can reduce the cost of care. This is because the care of this plant does not require large human resources as it does not need to be watered daily. Water use is only 1/20 of the common crop. Hydroponic plants in the wick system get nutrients from the supplied water in the bottles. Additionally, reducing carbon dioxide because it does not need to use a vehicle or a machine. Hydroponics plants can also preserve the environment and hydroponics yields are healthier. High yielding and even high yield quality for not using any residual poison or residual bite. Plant pests such as insects and diseases will be easier to control without the use of harmful toxins. The hydroponic trees only get the food that nutrients are given, the heavy metal problem in the product produced does not arise. Conventional plants that use chicken feces also take along the remnants of antibiotics as well as hormones. Excessively taken may be dangerous for individuals who eat their products. Plants also grow twice.
