Abraham Lincoln was born in a log cabin on February 12th 1809. His mother died when he was only 9 and this made him become less close with his father.

Abraham left home at 22 living off manual labour. He was 6 foot 4 inches and strong so he cut wood for a living for a while. In a minor war called the black hawk war Abraham was nominated as captain for their town even though he was in no conflicts. After this war Abraham starting his career in politics. In 1847 Abraham served a single term in the U.S house of representatives and then he left politics for a while. After he left he became a lawyer and a very good one at that. When he came back into politics ran for president and in 1860 became the 16th president of the U.S. (Biography, 2017) Abraham did not think that slavery was morally wrong he just thought that slavery was bad for the economy. He also led the country through the civil war and was a great president.

Abraham Lincoln’s work has encouraged a more open minded view as he always seemed to be thinking ahead. He knew what he planned on doing well before anything had happened. Lincoln was renowned for his humility and not being afraid of being wrong, which was unlike most politicians of this era and many other people also. (Baehr, 2013)

Lincoln challenged the status quo by stopping slavery, he may not have stopped slavery for the reasons you would expect but it was still unheard of for his time to stop slavery.

Lincoln took risks by going against everyone else’s thoughts on slavery. He helped the wellbeing of slaves even though people of this time didn’t even treat slaves as humans.

Lincoln worked for transformation by bringing in his proclamation to free the slaves.

Lincoln had offended lots of people through his life and had lots of enemies, it is obvious some people had some serious enemies and that it cost him dearly as at the age of 56 he got shot and killed. The assassination of Lincoln happened only five days after the civil war ended. (HISTORY.com, 2017) This suggests it was one of the people supporting the other side of the war.

His worldview

Lincoln was regarded as one of the smartest men of his time, his intellect may have had something to do with how different his worldview was compared to those around him. There are many different views on Lincoln’s thoughts on slavery, some say that he thought having slaves was bad for the economy. Others say that he genuinely thought that black and white people had equal rights. Whichever was the reason, freeing the slaves and making everyone equal was a completely different worldview then most people of this time. One of the people who did not see blacks as equals to whites was the person who Lincoln ran for president against, Stephen Douglas. (The Historic Present, 2017) This shows that Lincoln had a very different worldview then the people around him.

Lincoln’s religion is a very talked about topic because no one is 100% sure. He talked about a greater being in some of his speeches but he never attended a church, never committed to any religion and said that he doubted the divinity of Jesus. I think that Lincoln did believe in god and that it may have inspired him to do the things he did. His parents where Baptists so being around them his early live would have influenced him and shaped his worldview and this guided him to be the man he was.

My worldview VS Lincoln

I have found that Abraham Lincoln was a very wise and very smart man and that he has inspired me more then I first thought he would. I think it is inspirational the way that Lincoln was always prepared but if he was wrong he was happy to admit it and that he would always listen to others opinions. I think Lincoln challenged my worldview by always accepting everyone’s opinion and even though I think I do this he does it better. He also challenged it by being a good leader and a role model in a hard time. Also Lincoln never really committed to one faith but sometimes used a faith as inspiration and even though I don’t believe in any faith I think it opens my eyes a bit more to where you can get wisdom from.
