Inspiration and Insights into the Design Process
I was inspired by memories of fresh lime squeezes from my youth. My goal was to recreate a version of this drink using natural ingredients and lower sugar than traditional soft drinks like Coca-Cola and Mountain Dew. My aim was to create a nostalgic 1950s vibe. I did most of my research online using Pinterest to search and store images. I also did research in the grocery store; where I discovered an explosion in the number of craft beverages similar to my concept. Since then, I have started to “see” beverage advertisements everywhere, from television to social media and billboards.

Another thing I found was that sketching ideas first was easier for me. Trying to design directly in an application limited my ability to develop ideas. When I had a design on paper, it was easier to make my idea work because I already knew where I wanted to go. Next time, I would sketch more before committing to a single design solution.

Along the way, I gained an appreciation for Photoshop and Illustrator. It has been a couple of years since I took the Photoshop class, so I was a little rusty on Photoshop techniques and capabilities. After struggling a bit, I feel like I’ve regained some knowledge and hopefully added to the skills I had before.

Do more research and exploration before committing to a single design solution.
Do more sketching.
Take the Advanced Graphics classes as close together as possible to reinforce learning. Practice using the techniques you've learned.
