Starter:
Give each student a half card as they walk into class. Students need to find the other half to their card. These words will be the vocabulary words of the day: Santa Claus, Santa hat, light, sleigh, bell, cookie, cocoa. Once the students create a full card, have them tape it together and hand into you. Hold up a card and say each word, students will repeat after you. Once the students can repeat the word fluently, move on to the next.

* See attached PDF file, use the pages under the "Christmas Half Cards" heading. Pages 27-33.

Explain the word book to the students. Pass out the pages of the book that go along with the vocabulary words of the day (to create repetition with the vocab). The students should complete this individually. Once they fill in each page and you checked it, they can color in the pictures. When they are done, paper clip their cards together (with their name on the back of each). Keep them aside.

* See attached PDF for word book, pages 14-26

Exit ticket:
Give each student a card. Mix them up so there are picture cards matched with the word cards- so students have a mix of vocab cards and picture cards (so they can find their match). Use the pictures and vocab for the cards of the day to create repetition. Once students have found the correct match for their card (vocab word to picture) then they can exit, handing in their cards on the way out.

*Google Docs Link for Exit Tickets
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1S9tqAn4gxXNQsZb7Tx6NB9mzn9_DiJtVv4Xx5pmLfCk/edit?usp=sharing

Starter:
As students walk in, give them a word card (the ones used in the previous class). Once they get their card, they have to go around the classroom and find the picture that matches it (the picture cards will be taped around the class). When everyone finds the matches to their cards we will come together and each student will share what card they have and show the class the picture. After everyone has shared, we will tape the words and pictures on the board together and practice saying them.

* Google Docs link for Starter
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1S9tqAn4gxXNQsZb7Tx6NB9mzn9_DiJtVv4Xx5pmLfCk/edit?usp=sharing

Quizlet:
Using the link to Quizlet, the students will practice the new vocabulary words of the day: ornament, bow, gift, stocking, Christmas tree, snowman.
Students should log into Quizlet using the classroom computers.

Pass out today and yesterday's cards of the day for the word book. Today's are reindeer, snowflake, candy cane, star, wreath, gingerbread house, and yesterday's were ornament, bow, gift, stocking, Christmas tree, snowman. Once students fill in the cards and check them with you, they can color them in.
-After students are finished coloring the cards in, pass back the cards from day 1 that you set aside.

Next, give each student a Santa hat cut out (from page 15 in the PDF). Each student also gets two pieces of red paper. Demonstrate how they should trace the hats on the red paper (one hat on each paper). Then they can cut them out.
-Demonstrate how the students can put all of the cards together to make a book, the Santa hats being the front and back covers of the book. When they finish putting the book together (cards in any order) then you can staple the left corners, like the binding of a book.

-When students books are complete, they need to find a partner and buddy read through their books twice.

If there is extra time left the students can play the color matching game on pages 34-39 in the PDF.
