Meeting 1: The 5 different pathways of college

I was thinking this meeting could be a deep dive about what could be expected from community colleges, UC systems, California universities, private universities, and out-of-state universities. This can include information about entry, benefits and drawbacks, tuition, and what would be gained from attending (degrees).

Meeting 2: College Expenses and Financial Aid

In addition to educating us on college pathways, the instructor gave us a brief lesson on the costs of postgraduate education, teaching us about the cost of attendance (which is normally defined by 1 academic year) and Financial Aid options, like FAFSA, California Grants, Pell Grants, Community College Promise Grants, and Institutional Aid.

I will make a more detailed breakdown of these topics in a Google Doc (if these ideas are approved), but these are just brainstorm ideas for now :]

First Semester

• Asking for Letters of Recommendation: start early, build relationships w teachers if u haven’t alr, give them a resume/BRAG list. + fill out this form for sophomores.

• Study Abroad Ms. Willcox, ppl who alr did study abroad Or duell enrollment + Tips and Tricks From Seniors

Second Semester

• How to Make a Resume/Interview Prep: Short overview of resumes, BRAG Lists, mock interviews: partners or volunteers upstage

• College Essays: PIQs, look at PIQ questions, start thinking of essay ideas, figure out who you are and how you want to portray yourself to colleges.

First Meeting:

Introduce different components of a college application, mainly focusing on the extracurricular section and which ones to choose based on your major and college preference. Explain what makes you stand out and what to avoid.

Second Meeting:

Introduce test-taking and study strategies to help students prepare for AP exams. Differentiating between different study methods and ways to discover the most effective method. Also explain the SAT structure, its importance, and ways to start planning prep.

Leadership to me is having the ability to collaborate with your peers to create a positive change to your surroundings.

Why is it Important?

Leadership is important because it allows for necessary change to occur through collaboration and team effort.

Leadership means taking initiative and leading others to a goal while collaborating with them. It can also mean supporting your group/a group of students where needed and keeping them organized. Leadership in a group would also mean motivating others and not putting them down in hard times.

2. Why is it important?

Leadership is important because sometimes you need someone to take initiative to achieve something, and if there is no leader, stuff does not get done because then it would be chaos, as there is no one to guide/organize the project.
