I would like to share this wall whereby children bring their outdoor learning back to classroom. Children learn about the things they see during outdoor and teacher reinforce by creating this wall with cutouts of the objects identified. Using recycled materials, teacher created this activity board for children to paste materials they picked up from outdoor such as flowers and leaves.

A) I would like to share the Learning environment at our infant classroom that we had implemented, which promotes social interaction and supports holistic development in our infants. My team and myself created a “Maze” in our infant’s classroom. The journey of making the maze was challenging; a lot of efforts and hard work was needed to create the best learning environment that is safe and healthy for the infants in our care. But the outcome was very satisfying and when we observe the infant benefiting from it we felt double happy.

what is so special about our maze? There are different stations in the maze like the sensory corner with different textures, the scribbling corner, music corner with variety of music instruments, language corner with books, ball pool and sorting shapes and more..

Neuroscience research tells us that from birth to three years is the critical stage for children brain development. Therefore, they need a lots of positive interaction and sensorial exploration. This is what our maze is all about! We feel satisfied seeing our infants enjoying themselves in the maze and developing in various areas.

B) I would like to carry out more nature environment activities with infants and bring out indoor lesson to outdoor setting. Plan and implement intentional outdoor activities that are age appropriate, create corners/play area for outdoor activities for the infant.

C) Our group came out with essential agreement that are suitable and agreeable by the members.

I believe it's important to make learning relevant and authentic for the children. This year, just before the easing of COVID measures, our team noticed the Pre-Nursery children's immense interest in nature. At that point we still couldn't go out for excursion so we decided to do an in-house learning journey all about nature.

The team came out with interesting activities such as dancing to the sound of nature, creating sensory bottle with the natural materials that the children found, and a nature-themed obstacle course. We also garnered the help of the parents to send in videos and picture collage of the children interacting with the environment/ plants.

This event was a success as the children thoroughly enjoyed the curated activities and parents also got the opportunity to participate in the children's learning! This event also became a conversation starter for the parents, children and teachers.

As educators, when we are sensitive to the children's learning needs and interests, we will be able to scaffold the children's learning and keep them excited about learning. This experience of organising this learning journey motivated me to get inspiration from the children and be more confident to involve parents in their children's learning adventures!

I always challenge my teachers to think about what their image of the child is. More often than not, we see children through our own filtered lens.

We work hard to plan lessons and impart knowledge we feel they should learn. We also measure and assess them according to how we believe they should develop and learn. It is also very common for us to rely on our own growing up experiences as a guide. But how meaningful is it for our children?

In this photo, my teacher and I brought our Pre-Nursery children around the neighbourhood. We even took a train ride from Potong Pasir to Punggol and then back again. The children responded extremely well to the experience and demonstrated their capability, independence and sense of wonder. Their parents and the general public (and even the other teachers!) were so amazed. At the end of this learning journey, a teacher came up to us and said, "You both were so brave!"

I was glad that we decided to go according to the children's interest -- although it steered away from what we had originally planned for them to do. The conversations and questions did not stop and continued on for weeks. It was an incredible learning experience for us and the children.

I will never forget this moment. It will always be a reminder for me not to limit our children's learning and potential. Our young children are more than capable to learn, discover and explore. If we allow them the time, freedom and space to do so, we will be so amazed by who they are and what they are capable of! :)

My centre has rolled this interesting activity with the children - Pelata a couple years ago. This activity is to encourage children to interact with other class children from other classes and level. For instance, recently we had Art Pelata. Based on the theme, children will explore with paint through various activities. (Refer to pictures) From this experience, children were given the opportunities to explore on their own - making them a risk taker and being open-minded, develop their social skills - showcasing them being caring and also develop other motor skills as they attempt to paint, walk/run, etc.
