One new thing I learned was the misrepresentation of ELL students in SPED classes. I never thought about that before.

Children need to be able to understand their home language to better understand the English language. It makes it much harder to learn English if they do not have the foundation of their home language.

I feel thinking through how the ELLs need to be strong in their first language before being able to really learn the second stuck out to me. This seems it would be common sense but it is not always something I would think about.
