I saw that providing my students different ways in how they show mastery absolutely had an affect on their achievement as well because giving choice gave them ALL access to the content. Whether they shared orally, with pictures, with written words, etc they all had the capability to show what they had learned. They got to pick a task that was enjoyable, interesting to them, fit their learning style, and they felt set up for success by using their own personal strengths. I observed how much more enjoyable the task was when they had autonomy in their learning.  I observed a lot less off task behaviors and the students were much more focused and engaged.
