This is so unfortunate that this happened. This was not on purpose though. I feel bad for Ruth she was unlucky. It shows that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I think this will really be bad for Annabelle. Ruth is her best friend and always looks out for Ruth and wants to keep her out of the Drama with Betty and now she lost her eye.

I am very sure that Betty is lying about her being with Andy in the schoolhouse at the time. Betty was probably the one who threw the rock at Ruth, but my theory is that she was maybe aiming for Annabelle. After all, why would she want to hurt Ruth if she could get back at Annabelle instead? This is classic Betty, bullying and hurting people and then lying about it and threatening her victims. Later on in the reading, we even learn that the belfry was locked at the time, and Betty could not have been there, which even further supports my theory.

Annabelle tells her family about this situation with Betty. I think that she should have done it long before. Betty said if you tell anyone I'll hurt your brothers and Annabelle did not tell anyone. Then eventually Betty still hurt one of Annabelle's brother. At least she finally did it. Hopefully this will start to make a chage with them.

Betty's lies and deceit are so frustrating and make me hate Betty even more. The way Betty lies makes it seem that she is completely innocent and a victim of false accusations, even though we know that she is not. This is a classic antagonist move, lying and putting up this facade of a wonderful and innocent person to deflect any suspicions. This speaks to how truly evil and despicable Betty is. Additionally, Betty's grandparents buying her story hook, line, and sinker shows how effective Betty is at lying about her misdeeds. On the other hand, I can't really blame Betty's grandparents here as they are only trying to protect their granddaughter and are (probably) completely in the dark about her wicked actions.

I find it strange how Aunt Lily acts here. It's hard to believe that she doesn't believe Annabelle and thinks Annabelle is blowing the whole Betty situation out of proportion. Annabelle is her family, and she should stand by her. Her nephew and niece were both seriously and clearly hurt and were not exaggerating, which just adds to my disbelief about Aunt Lily's actions. Aunt Lily even clearly buys into Betty's lie about being a sweet and innocent girl, which shows us that Betty is quite an effective prevaricator and that Aunt Lily tends to see things plainly and not read in between the lines. Additionally, she also has the nerve to blame it all on Toby just because he is a little odd and lives differently than her, which is not something that makes him capable of hurting people. Also, the way Aunt Lily responds to Annabelle here, using a Bible quote, suggests that Lily wants people to believe that she is a devout Christian. I say that she wants people to believe because true Christians would stand by their loved ones and attempt to protect them, which is something Aunt Lily is clearly not doing.

I don't like the way that Aunt Lily spoke with the constable without anyone hearing her and then smiled about it, which is very suspicious. In my opinion, I believe that Aunt Lily told the constable to investigate Toby instead of Betty, as Aunt Lily's opinion on Toby is clear. We later learn that Aunt Lily believes that it was Toby, not Betty, behind the recent attacks, as Aunt Lily thinks Toby is strange and frightening, which must mean that he is the one who hurt the kids.

I feel so sorry for Annabelle here. If I were her, I would also want to turn back time and make it so that Betty never came to Wolf Hollow. This demonstrates just how great of an impact Betty has made on Annabelle's life. From physically hurting her to haunting her thoughts and making her suffer mentally, Betty has changed Annabelle's world. Additionally, before Betty came and demonstrated the worst in humanity, Annabelle, such a friendly and kindhearted girl, would never wish for someone to suffer as she did with Betty and the poison ivy. I find it so sad that Annabelle has to relish the few moments where she is not bullied and attacked by Betty, which Annabelle also mentions in this passage.

I think it's great how Annabelle is finally standing up to Betty and simply saying no to her cruelty, and I am proud of her for doing this. Annabelle even states that she is just tired of Betty's constant abuse and realizes that Betty is only powerful as long as Annabelle lets her be. I think that at this point, Annabelle simply wants to be left alone and doesn't want anything to do with Betty and her cruelty. Although Annabelle states that she was not doing it out of bravery, I believe that she still had to be exceedingly courageous to stand up to her tormentor like this and accept whatever happens, as long as Betty leaves her alone. What's more surprising is that Betty actually lets her go and seemingly agrees t leave her alone, which is seriously out of character for Betty. At this point, however, I believe that Betty knows that Annabelle is simply done and will tell an adult if the bullying continues, which is something that Betty certainly doesn't want. Finally, I also find Annabelle's response to his to be fascinating. I would have been happy if Betty let me go, but Annabelle says that she is just tired. I can understand this, though, as Annabelle has been constantly fighting Betty throughout the story and is sick of her and her cruelty.

This part of the story was very disturbing. The fact that it could have been anyone that got hit by the rock and the person that threw it probably was not aiming for Ruth is very sad. Her entire eye was taken out by a rock that was not meant for her. Anyone could have gotten hit by that rock, but fate chose her. This again makes that reader more intrigued in the book because it brings up a mystery that will hopefully get solved by the end of the story.

This shows that Annabelle is very down. She is mad about Betty and what happened to Ruth. But I think she needs to take these things in a better way. Or get over it quicker. Like her brothers are younger but also they are stress free. Granted, they did not have the issues of Ruth but Betty has hurt them and they are still having fun. She needs to be more positive.

I infer this because Andy and Betty weren't next to all the students after Ruth got hit in the eye. So I believe that Betty and Andy were up on the hill playing with rocks and then Betty wanted to throw one at the Annabelle, but it hit Ruth. Then they ran away so they didn't get caught.

However, the mystery of who threw the rock is still going to be in the book. It is extremely sad to think about how Annabelle might have to get hurt by Betty all alone now, instead of having Ruth by her side. Even if she has been with Andy most of the time, when Andy is not there, Betty will torture Annabelle. This is very hard to imagine and the reader can really see how both Annabelle and Ruth were feeling on this pace.

It is as if the author wanted to make sure that every reader could understand how a church looked, what people were wearing, how people spoke, and all the other little details. The author also made a point to pick out specific people to show how they looked. An example of this might be how the author described Betty's clothing and face, or how the author described the officer in much detail.
