And Women Must Weep is about a girl attending her first ball, Dolly. She was prepared carefully by her aunt for this ball to 'attract the men' but unluckily that no men asked her to dance as she's not seemed to be 'prettier' than others in their eyes. This really disappoints even when it's not her fault which makes her weep and feel so unfair for the women's and her position in society.

Deeper meaning: Women are treated like a doll and have to be controlled by men. They have to be beautiful and perfect to attract men just like products in the market waiting for people to buy which means that they are not respected.

Summary:

The story is about Dolly and her night at the ball with Auntie Cha, who I think is controlling her slightly. She starts off with a lot of confidence, however, she then starts to lose her confidence as she is not asked for a dance and spends most of her night sitting on her chair and watching others dance and have the time of their lives. Although Dolly was asked for a dance by a schoolboy she does not seem to be very interested as she noticed that he was more captivated by other things that were not her. After the night she is upset and locks her bedroom door and seems to isolate herself before she starts to weep.
Deeper meaning:
I think that the deeper meaning of the story is that men are the ones in charge and have the choice and responsibility to choose the women that they like and that women's choices are limited and women are like objects with the values being controlled by men.

The story is about a girl named Dolly at her first ball. With the preparation by her Auntie Cha, she got dressed up decently. At the ball, she felt anxious and stressed over the material of her dress, she had been considered about her outfit. Due to the importance of appearance, she found herself happy since she thought that she was fit the standard of a beautiful girl. During the dance, her aunt kept encouraging her to act like a living doll who has to smile elegantly or walking gently. The way she kept her real emotions hidden made she felt uncomfortable. A slight mistake could attract everyone’s attention in the ball meanwhile the way she tried to attract men but somehow couldn’t work. After many rejections, she hasn’t been “taken” from any man, that sincerely embarrassed her and made her shredded into tears because how shameful it was.

Moral of the story, men always have the right to choose meanwhile women are seen as objects to be chosen. Women in this period had to compete with each other to get men’s attention, women are manipulated by men.

The story ''And Woman Must Weep'' telling the reader about the girl in her grown up age attending the balls with all people around her age. As she was saying in the beginning of the story she was very worry along with exciting about this event which make the reader acknowledge that this is a special day in her life. She is already practicing how to dance, dressing in a nice dress with cosmetics all over her face and last but not least, a bright smile on her face. Everything went well until she made a little mistake in the waltz while dancing with a ''gentleman''. Despite the fact that it is clearly the man fault for her mistaken but she is still got blame for it and getting embarrassed over a majority of people. Personally, I feel like the author borrowing this character images as the way to show people the sexism over a gender in that time and the unfair in life women have to suffer in

The story is about Dolly who is participating in a ball (dance party) with a strong confidence within herself. However, her confidence soon fades when she notices there is another girl who wearing the same dress as her. The whole party turns out to be a failure to her as she gets rejected by most of the gentle men in the party. The longer she is in the dancing hall, the more confidence she loses as she hides her programme, pretending she is currently unavailable. The story suggests that societies and its priorities give a sense of pressure to some individuals. It deems failure and success unfairly.
