Also living here is very difficult, especially during the night – we live far from the toilet and during the night it is very dark here. The red crystal gave us flashlights but there is no electricity here – sometimes we pay the villagers living here to charge our flashlights – the solar panels where we used to charge our flashlights and mobile phones are no longer working after 6 months. 

The health of our loved ones is very important for us here. 

Some of us did not receive any shelter materials, there were NGOs before who went here to provide but it was only provided to the community leaders. They said that they will be back to have a better count of people living in this camp. Up until now, we did not hear anything from them and we do not know how to find them again

Currently, I go to the market and work as a daily laborer to feed my family, but the competition is very high because a lot of people living in camps are desperate to earn money – we are all competing to get hired as a daily laborer.

The priority for us is to have income-generating activity – we used to be miners, farmers, and carpenters and now we can not do anything related to that. 

We need money to provide food for the family and to repair our house that was damaged during the conflict. 

We need to transport – and carry our sick relatives using bamboos to the health center.  

As a teenager, I feel that there is no privacy – I want to stay home but because its too hot and crowded, I prefer to hang out with my friends at the tea shop. And also as a teenager, there is nothing to do here – we can not work because the mining stopped after the landslide, 

Sometimes, I find an alternative route to avoid passing the checkpoint because the soldiers are taking money or food from us and I am worried to step on a landmine. 

Most of us here, boys have mobile phones but it is useless because there is no signal.

We use as a flashlight and listening to music for entertainment, we go around with our speakers and play music – we love to dance. 

We walk with my friends a few more kilometers to collect water from the stream inside the forest. 

The road there is very muddy and it is difficult to carry heavy gallons of water. 

Young girls are in charge of collecting water in our community, and also it is nice because I am with my friends, we talk and laugh a lot on our way to fetch water. 

I do not understand, they gave me a yellow card in the health clinic. Some people they give green card, and some red. 

I do not understand how they do it. I am not very happy with how they treat us – I feel that they treat people in Malipara badly – why? 

I have difficulty moving around because of a hip injury – it is difficult for me to move to the toilet – my husband made a portable toilet for me to use inside the tent. 

I have my children with me to help me prepare the food for the family. 

I heard from radio regarding Zika, I did not understand what it is, they said that you will get a high fever if you will be bitten by a Zika mosquito. Our village doctor is saying to chew garlic to avoid Zika. 

My husband died during the mining accident and my children can no longer farm. We used to grow our own vegetables back in our village, some of it we use for our own consumption while most of it I sell in the market. The money I earn, I buy fresh meat, lentils, and some of our household needs. 

We only eat once a day for us to survive the rest of the days in the month. 

I had an injury once trying to open the sardines with a sharp object – it is very hard to open. No one in my family can help me, half of my body is paralyzed – my children are young and they are always out playing with friends. 

In the health center – the health workers working there pretend that they understand what I am saying, but I don’t think they do. I think that they are pretending they understand and only give paracetamol to us - I do not trust them.

We prefer to build our shelter made of bamboo material – it is much more durable compare to the plastic and ropes that NGOs are providing. 

And also If you can not provide these items to us – then just help us to go home – who wants to stay here? Do you want to stay here? No! Right? Stop spending your money in improving this camp – we do not want it here – send us home – this is our main priority. 

We do not need your help. Stop giving us all your food! Help us go home in our village instead!

The quantity of food you prodive to us is not enough. 

We have a village doctor that we trust – we all prefer him – but he needs financial support. 

I am very worried about living here – also there is zika virus that people are talking about. I do not know what it is – I am scared because I am old, and if I will get that virus, I will die here. 

I don’t want to die here – I am okay to die but I want to die in my hometown where I was born! 

 

Now there is nothing here. No electricity to even charge our phone where I used to listen to the radio. 

The military sometimes come here conducting surprise visits – they confiscate our mobile phones and radios – they said it is not allowed by the government. 

Some of us bought other sim cards in the market – Robi Sim Card can sometimes catch signal near the forest, the government of Barn failed to block it because Robi Sim Card is from the Country of Vaks – that is what we are using to call our loved ones from other districts, it is much more expensive but it is important to speak with family members – but we are very careful because the military knows that we are purchasing and using Robi Sim Card which is coming from Vaks. 

But we are no longer having an income since we moved here in the camp and we can not pay our village doctor. Sometimes I pay him with relief items we receive from Red Crystal in exchange for his service. We trust the traditional doctor on whatever he says. Everyone in the community trust the traditional doctor, he is sent by God to save us. 

Our top priority is to go back to our village – start farming and go back to our homes. I don’t feel safe here and the stop giving us food ration – help us go back to our homes. 

We do not need all your support just send us back to our village. Why is the military not allowing us to go back? It is our land, it is where my ancestors are from- it is our home.

Last month, my best friend joined them and up until now, her family does not know where she is. 

They promise a good salary and a husband if we go with them. 

I am tempted to go. I don’t want to live in this camp anymore – it is very dirty, our shelter is in bad condition, very crowded, and I also want to help my family.
