My day started at 7:55 with two female students coming in the music room to "practice" before class. The one young lady said "nothing could get me to come to school early except for this class"! Once first period began, I had a student who has graduated and on a waiting list for the Mufu course show up to check if there was room for him today. He will check back tomorrow to see if anyone has dropped the course so that he can get in. Immediately after the announcements, I asked my class how they were doing today. One female student who has just returned to school after having a baby (now 7 months old) said "I was up a lot last night with my baby but I'm here today because I just couldn't miss this class". I had about 10 students from this class waiting outside the music room at lunch for the chance to come in and practice. I had a senior student spend his spare every day this week setting up and organizing the instruments and equipment so his band doesn't have to waste valuable class time setting up. He also has a plan to advertise our music programs on the school announcements called MCTV complete with video footage of our program. I mentioned to my grade 10 MuFu class that course registration begins next week after the assemblies this week. I explained how we are offering a grade 11 MuFu course next year as an extension of the grade 10 course they are in. at least 2 students have already visited their guidance counsellor and signed up for the course already. Our students are very grateful for this program and show us every day how much it means to them. It is truly inspiring. I've taught in 3 schools over 13 years but this school with this program is by far the most rewarding!

"Today was options day so students had 39 minutes during first period to visit the classes of the optional courses to figure out what they want to sign up for next year. Very few of the students in my mufu class wanted to leave class to explore other optional courses. Several were very annoyed that options day was cutting their time short. One student commented on his daily goal sheet "I wish options day didn't exist because it is cutting into our class time".

On the other side of things, the mufu students were playing away when others came into our room to see the music room. We had a large number of students who currently don't take music come into the music room and were jamming on the instruments along with the class. This is the largest showing ever on options day.

After the others left one student said "I better get into the grade 11 mufu course. How much competition do you think there will be to get in?"

I have received approval from our Instructional Council to proceed with Musical Futures.

I will be ordering 14 sets of instruments that will be used in schools throughout our seven families of schools. There will be seven teachers that will be taking part in the initial PD.
