Secondly, the title is self explanatory and seems interesting, Ghosts. It's close to Halloween so why not read a story related to ghosts? 
Furthermore, this story brings together family and friends and allows them to learn a different take on death, the grieving process, and the afterlife which their exploration during the day of the dead helps them to understand it all. Which is celebrated in Mexico known as "Dia De Los Muertos". The story incorporates that with the adventures the sisters take on and the neighbors that they meet. I enjoyed this because it gives that different view and the struggles the sisters face and learning about death. It centers the story on Cat's relationship with her  sick sister, Maya, that has cystic fibrosis. Compared against her sister, Cat feels that she is being neglected in a way since her sister is sick. Her illness seems to show that it trumps Cats needs. So it makes Catrina feel second. She tries to find her own identity for herself. 
Maya seems like the fearless one too me. She's drawn to the ghosts and wants to know more about them and death and how itll be ok. The books art and style consists of a commic style of reading, with pictures and few sentences in each. It's an easy read for your child or to read to them since the pictures give an easy and great description of whats occuring.
Its very colorful, bright, and vibrant. The setting brings in the summer/fall setting and how its freezing versus the south.
