Nothing beats a good Kahoot session to energise the class! I use it for pre-topic knowledge checks and revision sessions. The competitive element really gets students involved, during Praxis 2, I used Kahoot's in my earth science unit. The 9th graders loved it- and it gave a dry topic the spark needed for students to engage.

My first practical, I was excited to learn that every student in the classroom had access to Canva. During a year 7 HPE class, students made a poster demonstrating PERMA. Students all had a login through the school to access Canva, which provided a fun way to build posters and share with peers.

Engagement strategies:

Students can:

Collaborate with a peer through the share feature

Create ideas through group collaboration, timely feedback and access to projects in real time.

Create Worksheets

I have attached an example of a simple worksheet that can be created in Canva (see the above visual). This is easy to create and easy to share with students. Most importantly, it allows the teacher to create in a timely and visual pleasing format.

Create PowerPoints

You can also create PowerPoints for your class that are now able to connect to Gen AI (such as Chat GPT). This allows for a timely creation of an Information and Communications technology (ICT) to shar with the classroom.

It allows teachers to organise class content and arrange it for students to view from their laptop as I teach.

This link takes you to a sign in for the Scootle site where you can find a really neat tool to give to your year 11 and 12 students on cyber safety. I also found it brilliant for my own professional development. It demonstrates an understanding of the relevant issues and the strategies available to support the safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT in learning and teaching (AITSL, 2022) by discussing privacy, well-being, consequences and online behaviour. It is interactive for students and a great tool to have them take agency in their own online safety and ethical use of ICT
