Britain's holdings in Africa were not as large as France's. It controlled more populated regions. Southern Africa contained mineral resources like diamond and gold. In 1806, the British displaced Holland in South Africa and ruled the Cape Colony. The British had conflict with the farmers. The farmers were the original Dutch settlers. They represented British rule. In 1830, the farmers left the British territory. They then migrated north and founded two republics. They also did this for economics.
