I would say that they are strongest when applied together, in a manner that works best for the subject and for the students. The teacher should utilize all three approaches in varied ways depending on the context of the lesson or unit. For example, when learning technique, the executive approach is necessary. However, for musicians, it is also important to give them choice and address their needs as individuals. Nieto makes the point that relationships are essential to teaching students of all backgrounds; that the facilitator approach must not be ignored and it is key to reaching all students.
