  • First and foremost, liver tissues should be extracted. 
  • Secondly, hydrogen peroxide should be prepared. 
  • Thirdly, liver tissues should be immersed in hydrogen peroxide. 
  • Lastly, if colorless bubbles evolve, test if the gas relight a glowing splint, it means that the gas evolved is oxygen.
  • this means that the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide into oxygen is catalysed by catalase from liver. 
  • This indicates that even when all the living tissues and organs died, the enzymes can continue to work. This can prove that the enzymes are non-living.

  • The following experiment was conducted to find out if enzymes are non-living.
  • A piece of liver tissue was added into the hydrogen peroxide solution.
  • Colorless bubbles evolved as liver contains the enzyme catalase, which catalyses the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide into oxygen.
  • To further test if the gas is oxygen, a glowing splint was exposed to the gas in the beaker. Since the glowing splint relighted, the gas is oxygen.
  • A glass lid was used to cover the beaker to prevent the gas evolved from excaping

  • This prove that the enzymes in the tissue is still functioning 
  • Because all living things in the rat should be dead and no cellular activity can be carry out
  • Therefore the enzymes is not living
