Censorship is a danger to today's society, this is because it has the power to stop people from the First Amendment right of freedom of speech, and not allowing someone to act and do freely. If someone has an opinion, and a group of people does not agree with them, sometimes the person gets censored by this group of people. They go on by ruining their reputation and spreading lies about them to the point were they can't defend themselves and can't spread their own opinion. Censorship is what damages us and stops us from spreading our beliefs.

In the article from Real Clear Politics, John Stossel writes about the scientist Matt Taylor who helped land a probe on a comet. This was the first time in history. However, because he explained his achievement while wearing a t-shirt that had cartoons of sexy women on it. Writer Rose Eveleth tweeted that Matt "Ruined" the comet landing. The public outcry was so great that he cried at an apologetic press conference.

This article is important to my claim because, when Matt was helping make history by landing the probe on a comet but got criticized when wearing a shirt that offended people. I am not saying that it was necessarily a good idea, but just wearing a shirt made people overlook his accomplishments and focus on what he was wearing. He wore what he wanted to and got bashed for it. He felt the need to have to make an apologetic conference after he made this huge accomplishment. He ended up crying during the apology. This leads us how censorship isnt just saying something or explaining what you believe in but also what you wear and what you decide to do in your every day life.
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2015/10/14/censorship_in_america_128406.html

In this book, they are not allowed to read books, books are censored in this future dystopia. This is a prime example that people arent only censored for talking or explaining their beliefs. Just like Matt, he wore a shirt and people censored him didnt allow him to defend himself. Books arent to harm, they are used for knowledge and thats why they were censored but no one cared enough to question it. In the text it says, "You think you can walk on water with your books"(Bradbury 111) . Same thing with Matt wearing the shirt, no one cared top defend because the side of people offended took over and censored everyone else before the fact.

Another article was about a Brendan Eich who helped create firefox, he was looked at as a superior. Come to out he donated a thousand dollars to support California's Proposition 8 banning gay marriage. I am 100 percent not saying i back him up, but a lot of people dont believe in the same thing as others. it goes with religion and everything. People attacked him as a hater, he lost his job as an entrepreneur this and cant find a job to this day.
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2015/10/14/censorship_in_america_128406.html

This relates to my claim because it was about someone who believed in their own cause, never made it public, never argued. Only donated and it costed him his job because people got offended, like i said before not everyone is going to agree with you and people must accept that without destroying their career. There have been presidents against gay marriage and a lot of other controversial topics but are they called out? No because people only go after people who they know they can get to and hurt by ending their career because they hurt their feelings. The company ended up censoring him too by firing him. For donating, not even saying anything, just an action.

When someone did something that the popular didnt agree with, they were judged and frowned upon. For example, being a literal citizen such as staying up late or taking a walk, they were judged, In the text it says, "My uncle was arrested another time - did i tell you? For being a pedestrian." (Bradbury 17) . Just like Brendan, he did something he believed in and got hated for it. All because not what the popular vote is or what they feel is right. He got censored for doing what he believed in, things everyday people are against anyways but he got hated and his career was destroyed.

This picture shows how even when we try to bring attention to censorship, we get censored, its to the point where no one ends up seeing it. People never get to defend themselves in situations like these, they just have to go with it and deal with the backlash of what they believe in. But dont even get the chance to get people to understand.

I do understand that these things can come off offensive and goes against what is going on today such as gay marriage becoming legal and how he was donating to go against it. Or how the shirt was inappropriate because of what it contained, if thats the case why was it on the shelves, why arent people going after the maker of the shirt? I believe that everyone has a right to their own opinion, he was never disrespecting anyone or showing hatred and neither was the donation, it was their opinion and no one should make their lives miserable or destroy their careers. It was their opinion.
