Preparing for the enemies to attack. They were expected to sacrifice economically and socially in defence of the country and people.  The government of Australia  took drastic measures and many surrender their privacy preparing for total war.

The Australian government created and distributed propaganda for multiple reasons; to calm the Australian population, to encourage the population to stay quite with international communication.
This effected society as it provided an askew/bias view of what the government wanted the people to see of the war. 
Censorship was big during the Second World War, however it was not as subtle as it may be today. The Australian government often used black ink to cross out sentences in letters from and to their soldiers which they believed could reveal important information or distract a soldier from his duty.
