Situation 8:
1. Riya and Dale play on the same Blue Knights girls lacrosse team. Both put forth a minimal effort practices, and are heard complaining about the simplicity of the drills and how they should be playing in different positions.
2. Confidential conversation including: "Why are you feeling like this?" "What position did you want to play?" "What deal can we make to come to an agreement?" "I need to see you prove yourself, if you can do this, then I will consider changing your position?"
Action: Ask student to take lead of the team, run the drills, and reorganize the team. If the student does well, then the team wins and the student shows leadership skills. If the students is unable to put their ideas into play (or if they don't work), then the coach takes the reigns back and student can decided to leave team or maintain the position they were given with new found perspective on how difficult it is to organize a team.
3. Follow - up: See if conversation has made a positive/ negative/ or no impact and then decide on the next steps.

Situation:9
1. Ryan tells you every practice that his club soccer coach insists that and his school teammates work at ___________ using these drills________.
2. We would allow Ryan to incorporate the drills. Encourage Ryan to build skills at home. Ask Ryan to run a drill and see how the practice goes.
3. Follow - up: Check - In to see if Ryan has improved.

Situation 10:
1. Megan Faith take off their jerseys and leave the gym after losing a match in girls doubles badminton. They proceed to miss the warmup for the next match and forfeit the 1st set. The team is further penalized as Megan is not wearing the approved match uniform.
2. For negative behaviour and sportsmenship - the students would be benched.
Conversation: Ask "Why they are so upset about losing?", talk about sportsmanship and attitudes "How can you manage your frustrations rather than acting negatively.
3. Follow - up: Students would be asked to display positive attitudes, if not they will be asked to leave the team as this is not the attitude the team is to reflect.

Situation 1:
1. Britney, Nicole and, Michelle are consistently 5-10 minutes late for practices (morning, lunch, after school) - the exact amount of time it takes for the rest of the team to set up the nets for badminton practice.
2. Action: Wait to set up until students get there, game doesn't start until everyone helps to set up. Make students stay up afterwards to clean up.
Conversation: About shared responsibilities, and team work.
3. Follow - Up: If these actions do not change the students behaviours, they will be asked to leave the team because they are not displaying shared team responsibilities.

Situation 2:
1. Tyler, Lucien, and the "Tonys" take every opportunity to "shoot hoops" at volleyball practice, including during drills. Lucien has even been known to take a shot at a net prop to serving in a volleyball game.
2. Action: For every shot you take that your not supposed to take, the student does a lap around the gym. They could also be benched, the whole team gets a consequences at once, or the student gets less playtime.
3. Follow-up: If the student continues, the amount of bench time will rise, and therefore their play time will go down.

Situation 3:
1. Lorenzo, Ed, and Dan are 2nd year members on the hockey team and tell everyone that this year they will be the team's captains. On the ice and in the dressing room their actions are very "uncaptain like".
2. Action: Take away the role, explain the position (based on merit and character traits not the length of time on the team) and how it effects the other teammates
3. Follow-up: If behaviours continue, they are removed from the position. If behaviours stop, then the students may maintain their role on the team.

Situation 4:
1. Both Vitoria and Marilyn won't get changed in the change-room with her teammates. For both practice and games they show up with their uniforms underneath their clothes.
2. Conversation: "Ask why they have decided to do this?" Consider body image issues, religious issues, bullying in the change room.
3. Follow-up: Address issues, address other students if need be, have a parental conversation if need be. Provide appropriate accommodations for the students if need be.

Situation 5:
1. You find out that both Marek and Adrian are struggling in their academic courses, and that practice occurs at the same time as Extra Help in Math and Chemistry.
2. Action: Move the practice if it is possible. If coaching with another teacher, ask if one of you can coach on differing days. See if a group of students want to meet socially after school to form a practice of their own - see if a parent can volunteer to organize and coach on altering days.
3. Follow-up: See if the students academic abilities and grades improve. If they have caught up allow them to decide if they feel they need to continue their additional assistance - maybe it was just one unit they needed assistance with - or maybe they need to commit to attending.
