Die! Die!" and a few other vulgar words". After hearing that, my nine year-old self was shocked that a five year-old, my junior, was playing a Rated M video game that beheads zombies. Looking back on this memory, I still agree with past-me. Video games do indeed desensitize children and adults alike. Despite the fact that video games can benefit your brain, they can also leave you emotionless as the robots you kill in your game. As gamers, they are continuously exposed to similarly violent games over and over again as their minds develop. Since their little brains are still developing, they become immune to the violence and do not feel anything when they see violence I.R.L. (in real life). ]]> 2016-10-23 05:00:02 UTC https://padlet.com/vlnguyen108/96aykcfmpp8x/wish/132521554 vlnguyen108 https://padlet.com/vlnguyen108/96aykcfmpp8x/wish/132521988 Dr. Andrew Grizzard of the University of Buffalo conducted a study over a span of five days.  During the first four days, he had participants play alternative versions of a video game as different characters, a moral character and immoral character.  On the fifth day, Grizzard had the players play a novel game, a game in which players interact with other characters and include static graphics, as an immoral character.  After playing the novel game, results showed that the repeated violence decreased the player's ability to evoke guilt.  The lack of guilt even extends to future game-playing as the study also revealed that the gamer's guilt levels decreased as the immoral character when compared to the guilt levels of playing as a moral character.  Overall, Grizzard's study exploited the fact that video games can desensitize players.
