Some people thought that using chemical warfare was inhumane. 3 men burned themselves to death in protest of the war. Over the course of the war 9,118 men were arrested for refusing to fight in the military. One of which was Muhammad Ali. Civil Rights leaders were mad about the black population being drafted more than any. Thought if any blacks were to fight it should be in America for their rights. Over time protests grew in size and many soldiers over in Vietnam started deserting. In 1967 Vietnam Veterans Against the War was formed. Demonstrated all over the country and many threw away the medals they earned in Vietnam. It happened at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Due to this event there was a nation wide protest that shut down colleges all over the U.S.. The shooting was never justified and the men that shot were never prosecuted for anything. To this day no one knows why the Guardsman shot. The reason the protest happened was due to the invasions of Cambodia.
