One more symbol is that how these two guys are represented. If you watch the series, you will see that one of them identifies himself with gays, he is sure about his preferences. This guy is represented from a low angle shot: camera is below him. Thus. he is represented as a strong character (at least in this very scene). The second guy suffers from crisis of identity: he doesn't like girls but also doesn't want to accept that is a gay.
